The main cause of corruption in Mexico is the widespread presence of drug-trafficking and officials who overlook law-breaking. They use their positions of authority to actively assist in criminal activity. Many Mexican police officers enter law enforcement not because of a genuine interest in policing but because of ulterior motives. Many Mexican citizens do not feel safe and protected by the police tasked with their safety and protection. Police corruption is also to blame for the failure of the war on drugs and the continued spread of narcotics and the growth of the drug industry.
In the United States, police brutality is focused around racism. In order to enforce the law, cops are allowed to carry lethal weapons. Police have the power to use lethal force against anybody who does not respond the correct way. Police brutality has been used against African Americans, Latinos and Native Americans. Victims of police brutality are disproportionately African American. The misuse of police behavior is enough to make a decent person ashamed of being white, as well as other officers.
What works in one society, may not be successful in another due to cultural norms. Police Brutality in Mexico and the United States are due to different reasons.
