Police Officer Case Study
A police officer accused of police brutality, struggles with his professional and personal life.

BRIEF SYNOPSIS:

MICHAEL O’DONNELL (40’s), is a former military soldier and is now a veteran police officer with the New York Police Department. O’Donnell and his partner, MITCH WILLIAMS (40’s, Black) patrol the streets. They both believe in justice and protecting their community. They are best friends. William’s wife, SANDY, is expecting a baby.

When a 9-year-old girl is shot in the chest and the ambulance is slow to respond, O’Donnell and Williams violate protocol and transport the girl to the hospital. Their Sergeant notifies them that they broke their policy.

Concerned about protecting his family, he gives Cristina pepper spray.

After work, Lopez and Moretti drink at a bar where they run into unruly, GUILLERMO, who grew up with Lopez. They recognize each other and then leave.

Cristina leaves the doctor’s office with Bella, when three thugs follow and accost her. She uses the pepper spray against one of the assailants and flees.

Williams and O’Donnell are called out to an abandoned building. When they enter, shots are fired, hitting Williams. O’Donnell calls for back up and Lopez and Moretti respond. They search the building and find the shooter. It’s Guillermo. Moretti is shot and killed, Guillermo is about to kill Lopez, when a female officer shoots Guillermo.

Williams makes O’Donnell promise to care for his family and then he dies.

Both O’Donnell and Lopez are emotionally shattered. O’Donnell is stunned when Lt. Johnson tells him that internal affairs is investigation a complaint against O’Donnell for police brutality at the domestic violence call. He’s suspended pending the

He’s trained to react. He fought for his life when Jason reached for his gun. It wasn’t about the color of his skin. He did nothing wrong and has no room for doubt. Internal Affairs issues no charges.

Jimmy Lopez, despondent, kills himself.

O’Donnell is given a new partner. It’s the female officer who shot Guillermo. He learns that Jason Tate killed Cassandra and then took his own life.

O’Donnell returns to work, wondering when the war is
