Child Exposure to Domestic Violence

Child exposure to domestic violence is something that is happening way too often in the United States today. This is a personal crime that affects not only the adults involved but the children who are witnesses to it as well. The content of the video is basically showing how children are very much aware of what is happening around them and how the actions and feelings of their loved ones can and will effect a child’s life. There are too many instances where an adult will toss aside what a child may be feeling in order to satisfy his or her own feelings. A casual factor that was addressed in the video is: when there is an order in place, parties need to abide by the rules and regulations of the order or there will be an arrest. For example, the police had been called to a domestic dispute (in the video) in which the male involved had come over to his ex – girlfriend’s house, whom he had a child with, and tried to climb through the window. The dispatch also informed the officer’s that the man had a restraining order against him so; when they arrived he was arrested and taken to jail. The officers told the woman involved to think about her child and leave the man alone. They also asked her what she thinks it is doing to her child and the only response that she could give was, “I love him.” Sadly, in most cases like this, the child or children are often caught in the middle. The basic element of the crime which served for the basis of the video selected is the silent cries of children who witness assault, battery, and mayhem between their loved ones. There was a news reporter in the video who interviewed children who were witnesses of their mothers being battered by a boyfriend, husband, or ex – lover. It was very disturbing to hear the things they have heard and saw. There was one young girl who heard her mother’s boyfriend

The aim of this report is to highlight the fact that children are indeed affected by domestic violence, and to utilise extracts from recent research to illustrate the point. Krug et al. (2002) have observed that children who have seen the abuse of a parent are likely to display psychological and behavioural issues that a child unaffected by domestic violence would not, such as suicidal tendencies, self-esteem issues and anxiety disorders. This report will look into three main categories, the first being what children know and understand about domestic violence, which shall touch on the meaning of domestic violence and the ways in which children and young people understand parental conflicts along with the ways in which children make sense of abuse. It is important that the ways in which children understand domestic violence is comprehended by others before reading further into the report, as it aids in the explanation of children’s reactions. The second category to be examined is children’s experiences, looking into how domestic violence takes its toll on children, when children decide to intervene in between violence, what children have heard or seen and leaving and losses, which touches upon post-separation violence. The experiences of children are important to place before that of the coping strategies, as it illuminates the reasons behind why children react in the ways that they do. The third category is that of coping strategies, looking into how children are likely to cope with the distress and trauma of living with domestic violence, including the immediate and longer-term strategies that children use.…

The problem of nepotism makes its’ way into an organization when upper management begin favoring family members or friends, disregarding whether or not they are qualified or suited for a job. Its’ impact goes far beyond what many may realize, affecting virtually every area within an organization. The impact is felt through the hiring practices, performance evaluations, promotions, assignments given, employee appraisals, and compensation. Nepotism has become a very sensitive subject which has the ability to cause stress and dissatisfaction within an organization, which ultimately leads to a lack of commitment of employees to the agency. Nepotism is a threat to an organization and needs to be dealt with swiftly, but consciously. By its’ very definition, nepotism can have a very negative affect on an organizations morale. Anytime that there is favoritism shown to an individual or individuals based solely upon relationship/s, it can cheat other individuals out of a position in which they may be more qualified. An organization owes itself and its’ employees to provide a system of fairness. “An organization that commits itself to the human-centered tenets of design thinking is practicing enlightened self-interest” (Brown, 2009). During this phase the inevitable result of escalating tension and anger brings out the most abusive violence. It is usually triggered by the presence of an external event or by the abuser’s emotional state (Becho, Burge, Ferrer, Katerndahl, & Wood, 2016). This means that the start of the battering episode is unpredictable and beyond the victim’s control. The acute battering incident is distinguished from other kinds incidents because of the intense discharge, major destructiveness, and extreme emotional release at its most negative (Newman, 2010). The victim often feels depressed and may present signs of anxiety because she knows that the battering is about to ensue and that there is nothing that she can do to stop the incident from escalating. After the battering has occurred the abuser minimizes the severity of the incident and sometimes blames the victim for what has just transpired. Throughout the incident phase it is not uncommon for the abuser to threaten his victim. In the movie, Mitch threatened Slim on multiple occasions. He told her that if she left him, he would kill her and that if she contacted the police he would plant drugs on her in order to get custody of their daughter. When children are exposed to intimate partner violence they are at risk of experiencing psychological trauma. Exposure to intimate partner violence is increasingly being recognized as a form of child…

In my opinion, I think that the United States should base its policies off of what is best for its own citizens. We can’t afford to focus on the well-being of other countries because we aren’t in the best condition either. We have things like homelessness, the recession, world-wide hunger, and other burdens to take care of in our own country. The United States is already trillions of dollars in debt and struggling trying to come up for air. I think that we should take care of our own first before we try to take care of other affairs in different countries other than our own.…
