Who Will Save the Children?
Child abuse is a growing epideictic in the world. Most of us will never understand why parents or caregivers would use violence towards a child, especially towards their own children. It's sickening and heartbreaking how so many children have to suffer throughout their life getting physically or sexually abuse and the majority of the time most of child abuse cases are never reported. A Child Called It, a very popular memoir about a young boy’s survival through child abuse, is a painful read. Dave Pelzer, a young boy was abused most of his childhood life by his alcoholic mother. There are many stories and reports of child abuse, for instance a mother comes
home from drinking all night and begins to kick her 4 year old child for no reason causing bruises all over his body, not realizing the effects of what every kick will do. A report of child abuse is made every ten seconds. Can you imagine? Every minute, there is at least 6 kids getting abused and the effects of abuse can be severe and long lasting. In thirty minutes, there’s instantly 180 innocent children getting abused. While the clock keeps ticking, these numbers will continue to grow rapidly as time goes by. Sadly, the majority of the time a lot of children that suffer from abuse, their cases are never reported. It has been shown that children exposed to violence or abuses have high chances of eating disorders, drug use, poor hygiene and many negative effects. Also, those that suffer from child abuse suffer mentally as well. Due to these traumatic events, they have a high chance of having anxiety, depression, academic problems, difficulty connecting with others and flashbacks. The effects of child abuse can be very serious, it is unfair to any child to have to experience any type of abuse. It’s important to be aware of abuse, it isn’t fair, every single child should feel secure and loved by someone. Those that are being abused don’t know what it’s like to be loved, they suffer from so much pain, most of them feel completely worthless. It’s our job to make a change. Not a lot of people realize how common child abuse is. Who’s going to save these young and innocent souls? Every year, the number keeps rising and it only gets worse.
