The movies King Kong (1976) and King Kong (2005) based on the 1933 film are some of the most captivating films that offer to the audience memorable characters, resonating emotions, thrilling actions and archetypal narratives. Bierman indicates that the heart-stopping and jaw-dropping King Kong films have been made to expand visual languages mostly expressed by motion pictures to capture the core appeal which many classic movies have (57). As this paper examines, the 1976 King Kong movie and its 2005 re-make display certain similarities and differences in terms of art, style and technological wonder as well as poignant character development. These are indicative of the evolution of the Hollywood style. Besides, as movies of high polysemy quality, their audience draw attention to aspects like overt sexism, misogyny, cultural portrayal of women as fault makers and victims, fears of miscegenation, racist ideologies and capitalist fables. It is against this front that this paper holistically examines the two King Kong movies and concludes by exploring the American culture, society and politics at the time when both films were made.…
Pesticides have now been proven to pose potential risks to living beings. “Certain environmental chemicals, including pesticides termed as endocrine disruptors, are known to elicit their adverse effects by mimicking or antagonising natural hormones in the body and it has been postulated that their long-term, low-dose exposure is increasingly linked to human health effects such as immune suppression, hormone disruption, diminished intelligence, reproductive abnormalities and cancer (Brouwer et al., 1999; Crisp et al., 1998; Hurley et al., 1998)”( Md.Wasim Aktar, Dwaipayan Sengupta, and ashim Chowdhury). Having pesticides around us in agricultural fields, parks, schools, homes and practically everywhere is a really concerning topic. I think that the facts that the use of herbicides, fungicides and insecticides amongst other pesticides have been proven to be lethal through ingestion and simple exposure is enough to make people aware for a change. In recent times it has shown its effects here on the planet and have a factor to the contribution of the potential extinction of bees. Some factors that can be causing this Colony Collapse Disorder are pathogens such as Nosema which is a pathogenic gut fungi, Israeli Acute Paralysis Virus and many unknown. Parasites are also a possibility of the Colony Collapse Disorder as well as…
Air pollution is the initiation of chemicals, particulate matter, or biological materials that cause harm or discomfort to humans or other living organisms, or damages the natural environment into the atmosphere. Air pollution occurs when the air contains gases, fumes, dust, or other harmful agents. According to Morgan (2003), air pollution was not a problem until the 19th century and Industrial Revolution because pollution was readily diluted in the atmosphere (Morgan, Environmental Health, 2003, p. 247). Air pollution occurs in many forms but can generally be thought of as gaseous and particulate contaminants that are present in the earth 's atmosphere (Air Pollution - Its Nature, Sources, and Effects, 2013). Natural sources of air pollution include forest fires, dust storms, and volcanic eruptions (Morgan, Environmental Health, 2003, p. 249).…
There are many different types of pollution that affect our environment and our health each and every day while creating atmospheric issues.…
Every day when looking out a window, people see a beautiful earth. The earth is intriguing, but hinges on a delicate balance. Many natural resources keep the grass green and the sky blue. Man has made quite an impression on our world, and has transformed the earth's resources into tools to make life easy. However, mans' manipulation on earth has become detrimental to the health of our planet and the safety of mankind. Through the use and production of resources such as oil and energy, man is gradually poisoning the earth. Pollution has become such a dilemma in society; there is no real control or a feasible solution to society's recklessness. Without complete change, our system will collapse. The earth will eventually retaliate with disaster, or corporate control of our economy will cause hysteria and depression. Evaluation of the consequences and repercussion of worldwide pollution, may give people a better idea of what the future holds.…
Sandpiper – Ahdaf Soueif (1994) Ahdaf Soueif was born in Cairo, Egypt, but she grew up in England. She married an Egyptian but it didn’t last long, and she later married the English poet Ian Hamilton –from whom she eventually separated as well. Her marriage experiences can be seen in Soueif's central themes. Her potent themes and far-flung settings make for deep reflection and reader interest. Characters: - Unnamed protagonist – blank narrator; fading love; disillusioned; displaced; lost; without solid purpose in life; alienated from new “place” (and daughter?); passive - Unnamed husband – no identity (removed out of bitterness, or because he is simply no longer her life’s ‘focus’?); unwillingly fading love; still cares - Lucy – new ‘focus,’ (therefore she gets a name?); torn between cultures Basic Plot: - Protagonist recounts (via narration and flashback) the generalities of her relationship to her now husband. This includes their early relationship (characterized by pure love, excitement of ‘foreignness’ and innocence), the decision to marry (supposed realization that he is the most important thing in her life via near death experience, also that he becomes her ‘reason to live’ (she writes for him, collects stories for him, etc) and – somewhat – vice versa), decision for children (penultimate expression of her love for him) and the slow breakdown of their relationship (drifting apart because of ‘practical’ differences and a waning of original emotions. The focus/ ‘reason for living’ shifts to Lucy). The exterior relationship begins to fall apart as she searches for her place in the world – this is something that shifts from Man to Lucy, but neither of these things are true purposes, just passing ones. - A summer afternoon spent at a beach-house is rather inconsequential; therefore, deduce that the actions of our characters, since they do not contribute to the plot, are actually reflections of their personality. - Narrative structure includes disconcerting…

Pollution is said to be one of those problems that our environment is facing right now, due to its harmful effects to everyone and also to our atmosphere. We have different kinds or types of pollution; we have pollution in land, in water and in air. We all know that these came from pollutants which were produced by human. Some of these are wood burning to produce charcoal, vehicular activities, improper disposal of waste, forest fires or wild fires, and other activities producing unnecessary gases. We all know that these are harmful for us, but what would be the effect of these gases as it goes up in the atmosphere? Would it be a helpful type of gas or this will just contribute to the pollution in our atmosphere?…
Because of our carelessness, many people, animals, and plants suffer. One thing is pollution. We can create pollution in a number of ways like:…
Pollution is one of the major problems of our country. Air pollution is the introduction into the atmosphere of chemicals, particulates, or biological materials that cause discomfort, disease, or death to humans, damage other living organisms such as food crops, or damage the natural environment or built environment. One of the causes is the exhaust gases emitted by vehicles. These gases are particulate matter (PM), hydrocarbons (HCs), nitrogen oxides (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO), sulfur dioxide (SO2), hazardous air pollutants and greenhouse gases.…
“Pollution has caused many kinds of effects to the environment that the different forms of pollutions are harder to be controlled and sadly, they have become more serious throughout the years. Apparently, other than natural disaster it is evident that the major cause of pollution is the irresponsible act of human being. Global warming has become a hot topic nowadays and we must take up the responsibility to resolve this problem. Global warming can be defined as the unusually rapid increase in Earth’s average surface temperature over the past century primarily due to the greenhouse gases released by people burning fossil fuels”. Pollution is the introduction of contaminants into a natural environment that causes instability, disorder, harm or discomfort to the ecosystem i.e. physical systems or living organisms. Pollution can take the form of chemical substances or energy, such as noise, heat, or light. The major polluting activities in our world are power stations, industries, cars, CFC gases in aerosols, refrigirators and manufacture of polystyrene.…
Pollution can take many forms. The air we breathe, the water we drink, the ground where we grow our food, and even the increasing noise we hear every day all contribute to health problems and a lower quality of life. Pollution is everywhere. Pollution is the unwanted introduction of substances that harm or destroy the atmosphere and our environment. The Economy is slowing; third world nations have political unrest. Our culture is more focused on obtaining material possessions then addressing our geological problems. In this essay I am going to identify the history, causes of pollution, effects on our planet, and the solutions to the Problems of pollution in our world.…
The effects of land pollution are far-ranging in the industrial age. The nature of the industrial revolution and the lack of a sustainable development model for industrial progress have allowed the creation of chemicals and products which may serve the idea of convenience or productivity or efficiency, however, the concept of environmental stewardship is largely an afterthought. This has led to long-lasting chemicals which persist in the environment and are potentially toxic to life.…
One of the dilemmas concerning our environment is saving wild life creatures. Cutting down trees is killing their habitat and ways of living. How would you like it if someone came into your neighbourhood and started bulldozing the houses down? Many living species have died because of the habitat changes they have to go through. Many oceans and other water bound areas in the world are being polluted by human waste. It’s killing all water creatures and making water unsanitary. If you really think about it, we, as a community, are murderers for polluting animals’ homes and ways of life. We are killing so many creatures each day because of all the waste we don’t care about and dump into oceans. It really is a horrible thing to think about. The first attempt for wildlife conservation was taken during the 19th century according to the North American wildlife conservation model and it was successful also after that so many initiative were attempted like world conservation agency developed by IUCN in 1980 with the assistance of UNEP and WWF, similarly in 1972 wild life conservation act was also enacted in India. These all have the motto to conserve the wildlife. Than for saving the environment steps were also taken after holding the different conferences like Rio conference in Brazil, CANCUN in Mexico, EUEC [energy utility environment conference] in USA etc. But now the situation says that these were not at all successful in their motto because the rate of extinction of wildlife and deteortation of environment is much faster than their conservation measures and this shows our seriousness towards it. Now day by day the list of endangered species are increasing like tiger, panda, cheetah, jaguar etc which were abundant before some 25 to 30 years ago while some of them are at the verge of extinction and some became extinct like North African elephant, Quagga etc. Now take another component as environment which is suffering from severe degradation due to many unbalanced human…
