The Declaration of Independence states that the purpose of the government (in terms of the social contract) that selected leaders and people are to ensure the protection of their rights and that they won't be taken away from them. If they happen to feel that they are not getting their proper protection, they are able to abolish it and create a new one... These were the things that the King had violated.
Natural Rights
These are the rights that all individuals born into the United States of America are naturally given, or the naturalized have. These rights include life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, to share values of equality, freedom and justice. These are the rights that are unalienable and they are explained in the social contract that the government should protect these rights. The King violated this.
