A big factor represented in the Population Growth video was that we cover up 17% of the earth's surface and the resources that we have to survive is only 4%. A problem that is in effect is that the population of humans is increasing. The following relates to the other two videos on population by showing the effects that an overwhelming population has. That the resources that we rely on to survive is not enough to supply all the humans on the planet. In parts of the world with the most populated amount of people, struggle with the resources that the earth has and show the future of the entire race. Unfortunately, all three sources show how the earth is going to one day be in a crisis with overpopulation.
Prompt 2: How are the LA Times article and the TED talk related?
The LA Times article and the …show more content…
TED talk are related because they both show the most overpopulated places on earth and show the effects that it has. For instance, pictures of India and how the people struggle with resources to survive. They both illustrate the reality on what the entire world might be facing in the future. That the growing population is giving everyone less room for people on earth. Not to mention, less resources for all individuals. Overall, the two relation over the concept of overpopulation of the world and how it is being shown right in front of our eyes.
Prompt 3: As a sociologist, think of one way to address one of the issues presented in the article and one from the TED talk. Be specific on the issues you are addressing and how you will address it.
In the LA Times article, an issue that I see happening is the picture of old Ason market in Kathmandu.
A solution that I think can be helpful is by allowing the people of country to limit themselves to one child. By doing this, they are helping out a bigger problem that future generations will have to face. For instance, in the TED Talk video, the speaker of the video shows an abundance of photos of India and the urbanization of the country. The photos are very similar to the one in the LA Times article. Both show that overpopulation is in motion and society does not understand that. I think that society is not worried about the problem because it is not a current issue that needs to be addressed. Thus, I think a start to diminishing the crowded urban areas of India and population growth is by allowing the people of the overcrowded populations to be limited to the certain amount of children they are allowed to have. A small price is what has to be made to help a bigger
problem.
Prompt 4: Is population growth something that we need to be concerned with? Why or why not? Be specific and remember to think Sociologically!
I do think that population growth is something that everyone should be concerned with because it is something that is already showing effect. For instance, China is known to have one of the most populated countries on earth. Not to mention, the country even passed a law to limit each couple to a certain amount of children. The problem of overpopulation is being shown to everyone but no one is concerned with the problem. People of society are concerned with what problems are happening now and not problems that will not be in effect for decades for now. Therefore, I do think that population growth is something to worry about but people will not worry about a problem that is not occurring now.
