The alternative sieges, blockades, rocket fires and capture of hostages among many other attacks that imperil the Gaza Strip have made it a region of open prolonged fighting.The French government expresses deep concern over the escalating violence in Gaza since the beginning.
France appreciates the efforts of the Security Council which has adopted numerous resolutions from the years 1967 to 2010 regarding this dire issue but we need to start thinking of the international threat it poses and take some active action.
France is working within the relevant UN bodies to promote an agreement on the establishment of a viable, modern, democratic, independent Palestinian state living in peace alongside Israel within secure and recognized borders.
Throughout the conflict in Gaza, France has reiterated its consistent position: international humanitarian law must be respected everywhere in all circumstances and by all parties in conflict, in particular in Gaza and southern Israel. We therefore strongly condemn the violation of humanitarian laws taking place in both the concerned regions.
This turbulent region has given rise to the dire need for an Israeli- Palestinian peace process. France believes that the two-State solution is clearly the only fair and potentially lasting way to settle the conflict. We are resolved to support the efforts of the United States to bring about a resumption of the peace process. We hope that this will result in the two parties reaching a lasting settlement addressing the full range of issues.
France has supported the bid of Palestinians’ non member UN status as it believes it will boost Palestinian efforts to secure greater international recognition.
Confidence-building measures that will make it possible to end the cycle of distrust between the parties will be adopted in an
