The freedom of different groups have changed tremendously for the better. The 14th and 15th amendments in 1868, 1870 helped the African Americans gain their freedom by banning slavery and being allowed to vote. But society was not ready for the African Americans to vote or have the same rights as the rest of the United States. They were persecuted until the Voting Rights Act was passed in 1965. Almost a hundred year later, now all African Americans have full rights and responsibilities to the constitution. Women's rights have also changed by now having the freedom to vote. The 15th amendment only allowed men to vote, women could not vote until the 19th amendment in 1920. Both of these changes have positively …show more content…
affected society because they helped create equality in our country.
Technology is another example of how society has changed for the better.
Transportation is a part of technology and has hugely helped society, by saving time when traveling. Traveling in cars, trains, and buses are used by the public daily. Now a 30 mile drive takes only 30 minutes compared to a horse and buggy taking 30 minutes to go 2 miles. Communication has increased as well. Cell phones, TV's, and radios improve communication and are used by the public daily. These forms of communication allow us to talk with people on the other side of the world and not have to wait for the mail to arrive. The communication also helps us stay safe by alerting us of coming storms or threats. These forms of communication are also used by our political, and military leaders to respond to different situations. Technology has helped society by making things more efficient and less time consuming than
before.
While there are many wonderful changes in society there also have been some negative changes like immorality and standards being lowered. Robert D. Hales spoke about the changing of societies standards. He talked about how the world standards are constantly moving away from where they started. When society was beginning to form the world had the same standards until about 30 years ago. Now the standards now are no where near the standards then, and I believe that these standards have changed for the worse. Families are falling apart because in society it is ok to not have a father or a mother constantly in your home, or for your parents to be married. Before families were the central unit of society, now a family is defined however you see it as. Personal health has declined. People are drinking, smoking, eating, piercing, and tattooing willy nilly. This is affecting how long they live and how healthy they are. Some changes in society have had some very negative effects on society.
Society has changed drastically over the years. Most of these changes have been positive, but some have been very negative. But society will change as time goes on and it is our responsibility to help make sure those new changes are positive and we learn from our mistakes. We need to be active in learning about our society and how to improve it so when our time comes to be the leaders of our society. We will be ready.
