Indisputably, I believe Marcus Brutus is undoubtedly the most complex character in Julius Caesar. As the protagonist of the play, Brutus is a very powerful personality and has the aptitude to command the audience’s full attention in his speeches. This enables him to portray his ideas as his speaking prowess makes the audiences trust in everything he says. The complexity of Brutus’ character is emphasized by his qualities as a virtuous spokesman, an honourable military leader, devoted friend and loving husband. Just as his father, Brutus is a Roman nobleman; Brutus truly loves Rome and in killing Caesar, even with his relationship status of being like a father and son, Brutus still sincerely believes that what he was doing would be for the greater good of Rome. Caesar says "Brutus would rather be a villager than the repute himself as a son of Rome" illustrating Brutus's extreme patriotism. I admire Brutus because although he did kill Caesar he did it for the good of Rome hence he was fighting for what he believed in.
However, Brutus’ character is not without its flaws. On the other hand Brutus might be considered as despicable; early in the play he shows what might be considered as lacking ruthlessness. "I am not gamesome I do lack some part of that quick spirit." That word "gamesome" suggest that he is not a risk-taker that he is not frivolous.
