was a passive, young man who wanted somebody to love. Gatsby’s greatness came from his never ending positivity and stubbornness as he tries to recapture the past. Gatsby is always positive stubborn when following his heart’s desire which he does both romance and a realism. Gatsby has been apart from Daisy for over 5 years and he has not given up on her, but Gatsby now knows that Daisy has a husband and has taken a huge step back. “Gatsby’s very careful about women. He would never so much an as look at a friend’s wife” (152). But he will never give up on her. He tried to get her attention “naturally” by hosting huge parties and buying a huge house but she seems like she doesn’t notice enough or doesn’t interact with him. It’s been five years and he wants to finally make a move. “Almost five years! There must have been moments even that afternoon when Daisy tumbled shoot of his dreams” (199). He wants her to look at him as an important person and a loving and caring person that would do anything for her, even if it means to take a blame for her. “Yes, he said after a moment, but of course I’ll say I was” (291). He was in the car with her but Daisy was driving and ran over Myrtle and ran off and Gatsby didn’t want Daisy to look sad that she might be accused and so Gatsby took the blame. He was willing to do anything for his lover to be happy and that makes him a realist and romantic gentlemen. He got the ‘great’ in his name by many different reasons. Gatsby’s mysterious attributes intrigued people and contribute to his greatness. HE would host huge parties that were with high- quality staff and the rich will always come to attend even if they were not invited. “Every Friday five crates of oranges and lemons arrives from fruiter in New York” (86). And all of this was to impress one person, Daisy. Many people would come but Gatsby was always hoping Daisy would someday swing by. Once Gatsby found out that his neighbor, Nick knew Daisy, he would try to get Nick to invite Daisy over to his house. “I love it, but I don’t see how you live here all alone” (188). Daisy loved her husband more then Gatsby so she stuck with her husband, Tom. As time passes and Gatsby was accused of murder of Myrtle and her husband Wilson could not forgive Gatsby even if it wasn’t him and he killed him and no one attended the funeral at all even if he did all he can, for all the people and only his best friend, Nick and his father attended the funeral and that makes him great because he did everything for everyone yet no one came “But it wasn’t any use nobody came” (357). Nick invited many people to come even his ‘friends’. Daisy and Tom moved away to get out of trouble because Daisy was the one that hit and run and gatsby just took the blame for her. Until the end, gatsby positive outlook on life blindsided him to the destructive behavior of others to contribute to his murder.
He would allow many people in his house to attend his party even if they weren’t invited nor did he knew them. “I was one of the few guests who had actually been invited - they went there” (89). Nick, Gatsby’s best friends were invited to his huge part. Afterward, Nick invited gatsby to see Daisy, Tom, and Jordan. Once Gatsby saw Daisy he wanted her back so he tells her to come back since she still likes he still. “It doesn’t matter anymore. Just tell him the truth that you never loved him - and it’s all wiped out forever” (272). But no matter if Gatsby tried to get her she wouldn’t go with him anymore because she is worried he will leave her for a very long time again and she doesn’t want that to happen ever again. “NO, we couldn’t meet. But both of us loved each other all that time” (270). Even after five years he still wants to be with her and nobody else and he would try his best to get back her back. He kept his positivity towards her and keep going with life without her but just trying and he is stubbornly trying to get her to be with her. Gatsby’s greatness came from his never ending positivity and stubbornness as he tries to recapture the past. He will always positively and stubbornly keep his dream to go to her. What contributes to his greatness was gatsby’s mysterious attributes that intrigued all the other people. Until Gatsby’s positivity blindly guide him to other’s destructive behavior to contribute to his murder. In many people’s eyes they don’t see Gatsby as great they see him very badly and a murder but I see him as ‘great’ because what he had done throughout his whole life and how he will keep his positivity until the very
end.
