Postpartum Reflection

First day clinical : January 21, 2016, 06:45 the first day of clinical, I was assigned to shadow an RN named Daniel who was working at the postpartum section of Valley Medical Child birth center, most of the clients did not have significant health issues related to postpartum but there were some who did not quickly recovered following child birth. The most significant thing that I learned on the first day of clinical was clients who gave vaginal birth recovered faster, looked happy, and less stressed, less fatigued, and most importantly took less pain medication related to clients who gave a birth through C-section. C- Section moms were most tired, look fatigued, stressed out and took more pain medication and they were less mobile.
I was involved in most of the client care except administrating narcotic drugs and other cares that was deemed to be invasive in nature and was not approved by the school. For the first time Daniel asked me to do physical assessment of the newly born twines, Baby A and Baby B, I was not sure where to started, however with the help of Daniel (RN) we assessed the twines from head to toe including respiration and heart
as I compared the recovery state of three mothers during my 24 clinical hours at the Valley Medical Child birth center, I noticed clients with better family support with many people came to visited them looked at ease and they were mobile, in fact one of the new mom told us that she put her lipstick and make up because visitors kept coming and she did not want to stay at the bed, on the other hand; the client who was not having as much victor including family members stayed on bed and took more pain medication . I learned having family support or some sort of support system may not solve all postpartum medical issues but it put the clients at ease and in containment state of
