Role of Power and Influence within Leadership

Power is the ability to influence others. Power could change the behavior, the way of an occurrence, control the resistance from people and make people perform activities they would not otherwise do. Some of those include honesty, openness, decisiveness, and conscientiousness.Trust helps build effective leadership. The leaders should be honest through their words and actions. The honesty of the leaders helps create stronger team dynamic. The level of openness encourages communication. When the leader hears and values the employees’ opinions, the culture of the working environment improves. It becomes conducive to further improvement. An efficient leader should be able to take appropriate decisions that best suits the organization and the employees. These decisions when taken, if based on the ideas and suggestions of the staff, inspires all. Conscientiousness reflects the extent of organized thoughtfulness and forward-thinking. Good leaders are well organized. They have sympathy to their staff, provide their thoughtful feedback and support as needed for the employees and are goal directed.
