I was able to assess the mother that was in labor throughout the time of her full dilation till the recovery. During the recovery especially, I visited her room every 15 minutes to check and massage to fundus, the nurse showed me where to locate the fundus and what to and to not expect, because if it was not firm it could risk hemorrhaging. I didn’t do it myself but the assessment of the neonate was interesting because they let the mother hold the baby after assessment because he expressed crying at birth, but if not that shows respiratory distress that would not have allowed the skin to skin touch that the mother was able to experience.…

Nursing, is a profession that I have long admired and considered to be one of the most gratifying positions that a person can hold due to the ability to positively affect so many people’s lives. This also comes with a huge responsibility to constantly be aware and monitor one’s own emotional state while adjusting to each patients needs and maintaining a high level of professionalism. When looking at the two areas of professionalism and emotional intelligence I believe that they are absolutely essential to the development of a well rounded nurse. Emotional intelligence is defined as nurses who have insight and an understanding of their own and others emotions and behavior (Watson-Druee, 2012). Professionalism has long been the topic of conversation among health professionals due to its meaning and how different people interpret it. Professionalism in its most basic understanding is; attaining the highest quality of care by maintaining standards and demonstrating good judgment and competence at all times (Hughes, 2012). When considering these areas I have come to understand and define them in my own way; I’ve also been able to interview another healthcare professional and get their insight into these issues.…

At 12:30 at night on June 1, 2015, my life would soon change forever. I was pregnant with my first child and my water had just broken. My mom rushed me to the hospital where I was immediately put in a private room, in the hospital bed where I was about to deliver my first child, a son. He came so quickly (5 & 1/2 hours in total) and I had requested no pain medications and turned it down on several occasions as the medical staff pleaded with me to use it. The pain began to become more and more unbearable, so much so that I honestly felt paralyzed from my waist down. My body was taking over to my surprise and I was just there with my legs in stirrups. They seemed immovable and with the pains coming faster, it is as if they stopped receiving any of the signals my brain was sending to them.…

The decision to have vaginal births or cesarean births is up to the mother or couples who are pregnant or who plans to become pregnant. Options need to be weighed before coming to a conclusion on the type of birth practice you plan to choose, that is, if there are no complications and you are forced into a cesarean for emergency reason only. First, while there are many reason women may choose to have a cesarean birth, one important reason is that a cesarean birth is often chosen over vaginal births because it can prevent “pelvic floor” dysfunction such as, female incontinence (Childbirth Connections, 2010). In some cases, women may opt to having a c-section to avoid the labor pains that come with vaginal births. There are also some cases where women have not had the choice to have a vaginal birth because of life threatening situations that resulted in having to have a c-section.…

For this paper I am interviewing my friend's mother who lives down the street from me. Her name is Kimberly Addison and she is a registered nurse in the State Of California, who acquired her registered nursing license August 31st 1987. She has experience as a hospice nurse, Charge nurse, trauma nurse, Head nurse of the ER and Director of Nursing. One of the first questions I asked Mrs. Addison was that if I wanted to take up nursing what should I do and what are the primary requirements. She responded by saying, “perspective nurses should complete a diploma program or an associate, bachelor's degree program in nursing. She told me all nursing programs require students to take courses in anatomy, physiology, chemistry, microbiology, psychology and social behavioral science”. When you have completed completion of state approved training programs and the passed the national Council licensure examination for register nurses you will be recognized in the medical community as an entry-level registered nurse. She also mentioned when you first start out you will be evaluating and implementing care also administering medication according to the orders by the doctor. She also mentioned that when she was training as a nurse’s aide her nurse that was training her taught her that assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation are the core principles then you will carry with you no matter what type of care you provide as a nurse or a physician.…
