Prepregnancy Bma
1. The prepregnancy BMI of Samantha is 24.3. According to an article “Position of the American Dietetic Association: Nutrition and Lifestyle for a Healthy Pregnancy Outcome” from Journal of the AMERICAN DIETETIC ASSOCIATION, the amount that Samantha should gain during her pregnancy is 25 to 35 lbs. Therefore, her ideal weight during pregnancy is 172 to 182 lbs.
2. Samantha is currently weighted 155 lbs, and it is below 172 lbs. Therefore, she is not gaining the appropriate weight yet. There are many health concerns if she keeps underweight during pregnancy. First, she has a higher chance to miscarry. Second, she may have a preterm delivery. Third, she may have a low birth weight (< 5.5 lbs) baby. In addition, her baby is more likely to die in the first year of birth.

In third trimester, Samantha is needed to increase 452 kcal and 25 grams of protein per day (Position of the American Dietetic Association: Nutrition and Lifestyle for a Healthy Pregnancy Outcome 2008). The amount of food that provided those additional energy is 3 cups of rice. It can provide 480 kcal. For the protein, it is around 3.5 oz. of chicken which can provide 24.5 grams of protein. The snack that I will create for Samantha is a cup of cereal with a cup of whole milk and a cup and of berries. The cereal can provide 160 kcan and 6 g of protein. The milk can provide 8 g of protein and ~145 kcal. The berries can provide 120 kcal. In total, this snack is able to provide Samantha 425 kcal and 14 g of protein. It mostly provided the additional energy to her. However, for the protein’s part, I recommend her to eat 1.5 oz. of chicken or fish more per day in order to get 10.5 g of protein. Finally, she will be able to get extra 425 kcal and 24.5 g of protein from my snack and

For someone who is not pregnant, a BMI of 24 is considered to be within the normal recommended range. Pam has gained 20 pounds since she began her pregnancy. Pam should gain a total of 25-35 pounds for the entire pregnancy (Grodner, 2016). She should weigh pounds 159 and 166 lbs in 7 1/2 months (33 weeks). Pam currently weighs 160 pounds, which is optimal because her weight for the amount of weeks she has been pregnant, falls between the range. In regards to Pam's weight, although her current weight is within the recommended levels, she should take caution in the foods she eats so that she does not fall in the risk of gaining too much weight. Pam's pre-pregnancy BMI was near being overweight. Since Pam has recently had increased cravings of junk food, it is important to recommend Pam to be more careful about her food choices. She should reduce the amount of carbohydrates, fat, and protein in their diet. She should reduce consumption of foods rich in refined carbohydrates and saturated fat, and instead should increase an intake of fruit, and vegetables; this way she can develop a regimen that would better benefit her needs (Poston, L.,…

Immigration has been an ongoing issue that has affected many people in the United States today, many immigrants have doubled since the 1960s because of the economic stability in their country. Even though immigration from Mexico has decreased over time there is still a majority of other immigrants in the U.S. The immigration system is broken and needs to be addressed and called for attention because they supercharge the economic benefits in America. An immigration reform that comprehensively addresses these problems like providing a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants living and working in the U.S. A common-sense reform would restore faith and still bring hope to immigrants; this will change America…
