In discussions of injustice, MLK preaches that each 100 years, the Negro is still “sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination”(King, 1), which shows that every 100 years, discrimination is still relevant towards races. In addition, when Frederick Douglass writes, “The white children could tell their ages. I could not tell why I ought to be deprived of the same privilege”(1), which shows how just because of his skin color and social ranking, he was deprived of what other children knew, including children of ethnic races today and how they do not know much about themselves due to not have the privilege of knowing. Segregation was a key factor during Douglass’ childhood and adulthood. Another example can be in Rodney King’s case in which he was brutally beaten after fleeing his cab while under the influence in fear of violating his parole. He was acting frantically and the “officers believe he had a gun”(King, Line 9), but it was never proven and the officers “openly bragged about the lesson they had taught King”(King, Line 12). The officers were tried but not charged accountable which is an act of injustice because a man was brutally beaten and the officers did not get any punishment which continues the legacy of segregation and how they were treated unfairly such as in slavery
