When we interact with someone on a daily basis, there are bound to be traits or tendencies that annoy us to no end. I am one of those people that has a hard time ignoring these annoyances. Last year, I had a falling out with my roommates over these annoyances. There were things that I was doing, such as turning on the light at night to take out my contacts, which would annoy my roommates. They would also annoy me in small ways, such as playing music through their speakers instead of headphones. None of us had any common consideration for the others, and that resulted in our room failing SAMI and almost giving us all company boards. One of the four components required of a transformational leader is individualized consideration. Individualized consideration is knowing people and catering to their individual needs through appropriate relationships. A transformational leader is a leader who creates a lasting impact on the organization and the people around them. To do this, they need to have the respect of their unit, respect that is garnered by identifying with individual members in the unit. A transformation leader needs to have a good moral character, character that can be improved by thinking of others and making small adjustments necessary to make the relationships between them run smoother (Banks, 2015).
Common consideration also applies to emotional intelligence as well, again in the empathy component along with the self-regulation component. Being aware of another’s feelings is empathy, and then making the changes necessary to foster the relationship is the self-regulation.
