Poverty is a pressing issue here in the Philippines. There are so many people who live below the poverty line, and there is a huge discrepancy when it comes to wealth distribution in the Philippines. Only a few actually are the ones who are truly rich at the expense of the majority of the population. There are many reasons why this is so: Our elected officers are also the ones who own most of the land, so it creates…

The Republic of the Philippines, an island nation located in the Malay archipelago in Southeast Asia, comprising of 7,107 islands, collectively known as Philippine Archipelago, has a total area of nearly 300,000 square kilometers to it's credit. The country, named "Las Islas Felipinas" after King Philip II of Spain, fell prey to Spanish colonialism in 1565. The colonial rule lasted for three long centuries and ended after Philippine Revolution of 1896. But independence, the most prized political ambition of modern times, was not forthcoming for it yet. It was ceded to the US in 1898 in the wake of the Spanish-American War, and it was only in 1946 that they saw the run of independence rise after Japanese occupation in World War II. However, it was as late as in 1992 that the US finally closed its last military bases on the islands and left the Philippine soil for good. Manila is now the capital of Philippines.…
Graft and Corruption has always been a big problem for the Philippines. Many presidents (if not all) in the past, are solidly accused of creating and approving projects of which the budget is way more than the necessary expenses and way more than the outcome. Some are accused of accepting bribes from various groups of big syndicates that operate lottery illegally. Some of these presidents were greatly affected by all these accusations about their governance that they resort to forced resignation, but some were brave enough to stand by their government and stay seated in the throne despite all the allegations thrown against them.…
Many years ago the Philippines is dubbed as a developing country and with high hopes of becoming a newly industrialized country by the year 2000, and at par with the countries; South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Japan and Hong Kong, but why is it that until now the Philippines is still a developing country? Is it because of corruption? (Rank 129 in Corruption Perception in the year 2011 http://cpi.transparency.org/cpi2011/results/) Or it because of our Population? ( Rank 12 with 103,775,002 est. 1. I disagree with the statement “Inflation doesn’t benefit anyone in the economy” because inflation primarily determines the price stability in the country, and states that there is an ongoing economic activity. This economic activity can be determined through investments running in the country. Inflation will benefit citizens as long as it is between the targeted inflation rate of that certain country.…

Ideas are meant not to immortalize history but rather to make sense of it. The manufacture of such ideas is influenced by circumstances that shape it and also, the vital thoughts of their authors. If we are to analyze our history, we could see that ideas are not only important for their interpretation of our history but also for their contribution to changes in our nation. Groundbreaking ideas have moved our nation to change. It is thus valuable for us to recall our own political thinkers. To fully appreciate our nation's existence, it is important for us to trace the evolution of Filipino political thinking.…
Evolutionary theory: One of the social problems that Philippines has been facing today is corruption. It’s been a major problem of the country since years ago. Corruption is as old as human history. But when was the concept of corruption started? In my opinion, corruption has started when people have organized themselves into groups, and that groups were headed by leaders and those leaders became powerful and began to abuse the authority they have. We, people chose leaders that became corrupted. Government officials became greedy as they started to take what supposed for their countrymen. And corruption has been continuing nowadays. As a citizen who grew up in a corrupt country, I believe that we tolerate a certain amount of corruption from leaders as long as there isn’t too much. As people continues to tolerate it, people stop seeing the point of cooperating to stand that matter. And the corruption remains. It is natural for every state that there is a corrupt official, but then also natural for us to take such actions like strikes or rallies which I believe that are very ineffective. That’s why corruption still continues.…
