Randomly assigning certain school children to new school districts could help the problem of integration. This system poses its own problems. By randomly assigning children to certain schools, one would not know if the school will truly be diverse. Also, there may be oppositions from families if their children have to ride the bus miles just to go to school in another district if there is a well established school in the district where he or she lives. Also, inner city students face the same problem of traveling may be miles to and from school everyday to a school that may be up to educational par, but may be an hour away both the ways.
In the past four decades, we have found ourselves with the problem of segregation- a problem that should have been remedies long ago. One can see from the history of attempting to desegregate schools that there is no easy answer, no quick fix. It may very well take many more years before we can actually say that schools are fully integrated.
