Procedures to Ensure Ethical Behavior
Procedures to Ensure Ethical Behavior The Walt Disney Company has several procedures in place to ensure ethical behavior. The first procedure in place is effective internal controls over financial reporting. The Walt Disney Company used the independent registered public accounting firm of PriceWaterHouseCoopers LLP for the auditing of its financial statements and internal controls for the year ending 2009 and 2010. This independent auditor found the financial statements to be presented fairly and the internal controls over financial reporting to be effective for both of those years (The Walt Disney Company, 2010*). The Walt Disney Company also has a code of ethics in place for all employees, which is titled The Standards of Business Conduct. Each employee must complete compliance training, business standard training, and ethics training when hired. This procedure is in place to ensure that each employee has the knowledge to act ethically and legally. On top of effective internal controls and special training of each employee the Walt Disney Company has in place a code a business conduct and ethics for just the directors of the company. This procedure is in place to ensure that the directors comply with all applicable laws, rules, regulation, and acts in an ethical manner (The Walt Disney Company, 2010).
