Dance. How can you survive a University with what people think is an easy major. If you ask someone who has zero dance experience, I bet seventy-five percent of the time people are going to say that it is an easy subject. When someone says that it is easy, I laugh at them and tell them that they have no idea on what they are talking about. There is technique that you have to learn, movements that your body does not want to do because it is not used to it. Then the sense of rhythm that need to be on point for the actions. With my mom she was assigned to write up her own dances and perform them to classmates. It could be from any genre that the teacher picked. They got to pick the music and the moves that they wanted. At times there were times where she was told to improve to a random song of the professor's choice. If that happened to me then I would get used to being ready on the

Do you know a NCAA sport that requires its participants to be as strong as football players, as flexible and skillful as gymnasts, and as graceful as dancers, all with a peppy attitude accompanied by a smile? The body is intricately made and can do amazing things. Dancers tap into the muscles of their body that many people do not know exist, much like athletes. A dancer trains hard, spends hours in the studio, is always looking to improve their skills, and engages in competition. The same can be said about football, basketball, and baseball players. People assume that dance is not as challenging or aggressive on the body as other sports. But I, as a dancer, can validate that it is just as hard and uses large groups of muscles to complete certain steps, or moves. Despite what most people think, golf is a game, not a sport. A sport can be a game, but a game doesn 't have to be a sport (Johnson 2). Recently, CNNSI did a poll on whether or not golf is a sport, and the answer was a definitive "No." Golf is a game that can be played by people of all age and sizes, and requires absolutely no athletic ability, which makes it not a sport (Thomas 1).…

Every year, thousands of young girls inflict permanent damage on their feet by dancing en pointe, a ballet tradition dating back to the 19th. This subject holds particular significance to me. I have danced for most my life, and as a young girl I desperately wanted to dance in pointe shoes. Pointe work seemed like the pinnacle of achievement for a dancer, and I waited anxiously for my instructor to allow it. When I eventually began to dance on pointe I realized two things. One: pointe work requires a level of pain tolerance that I do not have. Two: most of the other girls taking pointe seemed young, between the ages of 10-12. This confused me, since I had always heard teachers insist that going on pointe before the age of 14 would have horrible…

The worst thing you could do while dancing is looking at the feet constantly.…

As for the physical state, dance relies heavily on a person’s weight and muscle. In one hour of ballet dancing, one loses 432 calories. After a few years of dancing, the muscles in a dancer’s legs and glutes develop, giving stronger muscles and form. My dance instructor-- Jo-- is constantly telling my class that dance relies heavily on abdominal strength. Since dance is a series of quick, melodic, paced moves, a dancer must be based on a strong center core. A dancer’s form needs essential strength to successfully complete turns and jumps, and the delicate skill of landing and moving with agility and grace. Coordination is the next major part of being a dancer, and though I may not be the most coordinated person, I am able to do several things at once, which, dancing also relies on. Adding to that-- if you are in a partner dance, you have to possess the ability to move yourself in multiple ways, and still be in synch with your partner and the music, all while completing and achieving proper form, as well as…
