I. Identifying Information and Purpose of Interview On Wednesday, April 13, I, Madison Blagg, met with fellow classmate Brianna Gipson in order to recreate two client interactions with each other. For our first interview, I was the social worker and she was a client that we interviewed at Trinity Terrace, whom I’ll simply refer to as JF. We interviewed JF at Trinity Terrace twice for our HBSE II assignment, however she refused to be taped, recorded or sign forms other than the permission to interview her form. So in order to compensate we met in Rees Jones, each conducted a 15 minute interview and each took turns being the client and the social worker. From this point on I’ll simply keep to the role-play, that Brianna is JF, we were at Trinity Terrace, and that I was the resident clinical social worker on staff. Prior to meeting with JF, nurses on the 10th floor came to me and asked me to do an assessment with JF, as she was beginning to show signs of depression and regressing in social situations. In her adult life, she was a nurse at a hospital in Fort Worth and went on to become a hospital administrator. She was originally from New York and attended college up north, but relocated to Texas with her parents in her mid-20’s. JF cited struggling with loneliness and homesickness as well as undiagnosed depression. She explained that she has very strong Christian religious views and reported that her relationship with Jesus is what has helped her cope with losses she’s experienced (parents, friends, etc.).     In order to capture as much information questions had to relate to personal lives and social policy (See appendix –Interview with John Smith). It is important to note that John had to agree to take part in the interview and above all he was assured of confidentiality. I considered the issue of voluntary and informed consent very important. John was well informed of what the research entailed and he being known to me made life a bit easy. The choice of the interview venue was reached with consultation with John. It was important to select a venue the interviewee was comfortable in. In this case John felt his home was suitable. Preparation also included testing the recording equipment and related accessories such as adaptors and cable extensions.     With a strong interest in child welfare, there was no question that my interview with a social worker would involve someone who is involved in this area of practice. I did a small amount of internet research and discovered the All Nations Coordinated Response Network (ANCR) in Winnipeg. I discovered that within the Child and Family Services system this agency is generally the first point of contact. With an interest in front line work, I decided to make contact with this agency in hopes of scheduling an interview. I made a phone call to ANCR and spoke to a receptionist with the agency about what I was looking to accomplish. I was more specific than I had originally planned and requested a recent graduate for the interview if possible. I did this in hopes of gaining a better insight of what a career will be like when I, myself am completed university. Not only was she working in a career which I am interested in, she was fairly new to this agency but also had experience with another organization that worked with children and their families.     At this time I could have asked her several open ended probing questions to help give me a full picture of the relationship that she and the deceased shared before his death. Such as: Tell me, were you and your husband still together or what kind of feelings did you have toward him? Probing more is something that I need to work on. I think the major issue for me is to not get to deep into a person’s business. I had always been taught not to pry into a person private life.
