A proctor is an appointed official of the school or university authority who is assigned with the task of enforcing strict academic integrity of students during tests and/or examinations, which includes monitoring to prevent cheating, enforcing guidelines to promote discipline etc, in accordance to the established regulations of the academic institution. Proctoring refers to the act of carrying out these tasks as described above. In other words, proctoring means to invigilate a test or examination in an academic institution and a proctor is an official invigilator or invigilating officer. exams to ensure that it protects and maintains the academic integrity of the institution, the integrity of the examination or grading process, as well as to validate the integrity of every student’s academic excellence. Proctored exams are a means to validate, authenticate and certify a student’s performance in a particular course during a specific examination as being genuine and devoid of any form of cheating.
2. What criteria are necessary for an appropriate proctor?
The criteria UoPeople requires for an appropriate proctor are as follows:
a) be responsible adults, such as a local official, supervisor at work, librarian, or a religious figure, and be at least 21 years old;
b) be willing to comply with policies and procedures to ensure the integrity of the exam process;
c) have adequate and reliable access to the Internet, including email services;
d) be available to be physically present with the student throughout the entire proctored exam.
e) The proctor cannot be a relative of the student, a student at UoPeople or an applicant,
f) The proctor cannot have a conflict of interest or have any vested interest in the student’s grade or performance on his/her exam. Students are strictly prohibited from offering the proctor any payment or other benefit in return for the proctor’s willingness to supervise the exam.
g) Students may arrange for a proctor through a third party company or organization offering proctoring services, but students should be aware that they will be responsible for any fees incurred for this service.

3. Explain how you register your chosen proctor with the university (found in the student portal), and share an example and description of one person you might choose as a proctor.
In order to register my chosen proctor with the university, during the online registration of a course that requires a proctor, on the “add a course” page of the Enrollment tab for course registration in the student portal, I will click on “add a proctor” link and enter the following information: full name, email address, phone number, residence country and occupation.
For my proctored courses, I intend to use ProctorU services. ProctorU is a reputable company offering proctoring services for students and/or academic institutions. Now, for example, to register ProctorU as my proctor, after clicking on the “add a proctor” link during a proctored course registration, I will input the following
details:
• Proctor first name and last name – ProctorU
• Proctor email address – passwords@proctoru.com
• Proctor phone number – 1-855-772-8678
• Proctor country of residence – United States
• Proctor city of residence – San Francisco
• Proctor occupation –ProctorU
