Welcome to the Professional Accounting Skills for Business Decisions module.
The objectives of this module are to develop your “employability”. This will be done through the development of professional accounting skills by the use of case studies and scenarios which simulate real world experiences. You will be required to propose solutions to realistic business problems by applying your previously acquired accounting and business knowledge.
The module will put you in realistic business situations. Many of the situations will require you to assume the role of an internal or external consultant. This is an important statement! It does not say “You will assume the role of a student and comment on the situation”. You will be expected to behave as a “professional” and consequently, we will treat you as one.
You will be required to do work in groups for some cases and individually for others. The outputs from the exercises could be oral presentations or written reports.
You will be allocated to groups (just as you would be in the workplace). Membership of these groups cannot be changed and is non-negotiable.
A range of organizations and therefore accounting and business topics will be explored. You will be required to meet the requirements of the tasks by the use of previously acquired academic knowledge to identify problems and then undertake further analysis before proposing solutions to the problems. These must then be professionally presented and discussed
