Program and Initiative
Reflective

The most compelling aspect of this project has been finding the resources to start my initiative. I didn’t realize how many community programs Durham had to offer. It really gave me hope for the youth in my community. The only issues that I could see was in finding the right fit for the right youth. Once I started to research programs, it really informed me of how very important youth are in our community. In order to help our youth succeed, we must be willing to come together and show them how to become productive members of our society. The most worrisome aspect of this project has been finding the time to really research my initiative. This class had a lot of work and research to do. In order to have a great initiative a person has to have the time and energy to start it up. I realize now that you have to have time and find a place where you can be by yourself to considerate. I wish I had more time to really start this initiative. I have always thought about starting a summer program for the youth. Last summer I had got some information on how I could start a program up. The only problem I came across was finding a building to have my program. Therefore I also wish I had the money to get this program off the ground. The best part of this project will be to finally have the research I need to start the program. Now, I have the resources to be able to have more than an idea but talk to other people in the community to get started. If I am not able to start my own initiative can partner with other program to help them with their program. I also feel like I know the youth better and can help them to succeed in their everyday life. I am excited about talking to other co-workers about what I have learned in this class. I can give them the insight on how to start a successful program. Also we can start working on our program for a summer program in

In this community there are a growing percentage of high school students who are dropping out. There are many reasons for this alarming trend in our community some being economical and others are based on the socioeconomic status of the population in general. Due to the depressed economy, many local companies are moving to other areas in an attempt to maintain competitive economic incentives for employees. When this happens, property taxes which support funding for high school programs has diminished in the last few years, resulting in the loss of qualified teachers and no funds to hire new positions. This has in turned left high school students feeling lost and hopeless with no hope of having a better quality of life. This is where the proposal for the organization I will be directing comes in.…

The organization provides a safe and welcoming environment for children and their families to play, learn and interact. The program reaches out to mainly lower income families who live within the county limits. The families that have children aged 3 years to age 16 years are the organization’s main focus group. The organization is a non-profit program. It does not charge a fee for the services it provides, but rather depends on donations, investors and volunteers. The organization would work by communicating with the schools, churches, and police stations to give the program’s information to certain youth and their families. The children who are bullied into doing/not doing something, suffer from bad grades, or have a criminal past would be the main focus of the group. At the organization, there would be spaces for different activities like a gymnasium for sports, one or two classrooms for tutoring and homework help, and a game room with a variety of…

“School leaders should allocate sufficient time to get to know organizations before inviting them to begin partnerships, learn more about an organization’s goals and time commitment” (Bonnie etl., 2009). This is the same for groups looking to partner with schools. An organization should not just show up for program implementation, that is not a good way for the schools and the families to get to know the organization and learn what they are about and their reasoning behind partnering up with the school. “collaborative partnership do not, in themselves, reduce risks for adolescent violence and school failure, positive youth outcomes are more likely to be achieved when partnerships are equipped for developing and managing” (Bonnie etl.,…

The third question Identify technical and political aspects of program planning and evaluation you might encounter in the program scenario you chose, and explain how these aspects could affect your planning and evaluation process. I my opinion the technical aspect of program planning would be having qualified counselor in place. To talk to the victim to find out what the victim needs is and what area does the victim need help in such as housing, help with child care needs and education. The political aspect of it would be going to congress fighting for laws against domestic violence making the abuser take full responsibility of their action. Issue that could affect planning of domestic violence program is there housing or a safe house for the victim trying to get out or away from and abuser such as a victim protection plan. The next questions will the victim stay in the program or go back to the abuser. Other…

Although everyone certainly has a different story to tell, there seems to be a sort of toughness that resonates from those who have dropped out of school. In order to capture the attention that by all accounts is hard to keep captivated, you must put together a statement of opportunity that sparks their curiosity and peaks their interest. The dropout rate is having considerable impact on the community and there must be an intervention to put a stop to the current rate of teens that dropout instead of staying in school to empower themselves and to enlighten a city of the potential that still exists there. For those that remain stagnant in the community, it is important to set up a program that qualifies them in basic skills along with vocational training which will help them in their quest for employment in the community. Putting together a program is challenging, but the end result will prove well worth the effort put forth into it.…

One thing that the project has helped me with is time management. I spent a lot of time improving products and this left little time for improving my evaluations, and this is an area I could focus on if I did the project again. Personally, I believe that if I had created a plan with a list of tasks and deadlines for them, I think the project I have produced would be much better and all the areas would've been covered accurately. Upon completion of the project, my time management skills have improved significantly and I am more likely to complete homework on time in my other subjects.…

In the past I had looked at volunteering at various places because I do enjoy giving back to the community and just being able to help someone else. It’s hard enough for me to find any time to volunteer since I work 2 jobs and go to school full time so when projects like this come up I do stress out. Researching places to volunteer can be difficult because you must get a background check, certain shots, or other various things. Not a lot of people have time to volunteer in the first place but having to go through so many obstacles can be frustrating when all you want to do is help the community.…
