Prohibit Cell Phone Use While Driving
No human life is worth a cell phone. States have been passing laws to prohibit cell phone use while driving. Though some people may not agree with my stand on this topic, I wholeheartedly believe cell phones are a distraction that needs to be eliminated. When someone gets distracted behind the wheel of a vehicle, accidents happen and accidents will kill. Using a handheld ,or any kind of phone, will take your attention away from the task at hand, driving. No matter how great of a multitasker you are no one can watch their screen and the road at the same time. Not watching the road will lead to either you getting hurt or an innocent person getting hurt at your hands. Take my sister, Paige, for example. Paige was only eighteen years …show more content…
All she knew was that she she could not feel her legs. Paige, star athlete with her whole life ahead of her, was paralyzed from the waist down. Want to know how banged up the other guy was? He got a concussion. In the days after Paige woke up we slowly got to know what exactly happen. The boy had been on the way to his mom's house for dinner and was running late. He decided to call and tell her just that. In reaching for his phone, he swerved into my sister's lane. He got distracted, he got in an accident, and he paralyzed my sister. How can someone be that selfish? How can someone show absolutely no regard for human life? No phone call, text, or email is worth that. Nothing is worth the loss of a human life. Using a cell phone while driving is an inexcusable act. Handheld cell phones can be great, but never when driving a car. Paige will never walk again, never play soccer again, never swim again; all because someone decided that their need to use a cell phone while driving was more important than someone's life. Cell phones are a unnecessary distraction. They should be illegal and I dream of a day where its not just a few states here and there where using a phone while driving is illegal, but where it is illegal

Initially, there should be a law stating one can't use a cell phone while driving because of the risk it puts on other drivers'. Its one thing for someone to make the decision to put their own life on the line, but when one chooses to put another's life in jeopardy that is just ridiculous. We shouldn't have the ability to take ones precious life by our recalcitrant behavior. For the past 10 to 15 years cell phone users have increased and surely the increase in numbers of distracted drivers' is a consequence. Nowadays, it would be realistic to say that cell phones are a necessity in our lives. We take them everywhere we go and hold on to them like our most sacred possession. Their use has become so great and when they fall or we can't find them our heart starts racing and we start to panic. Likely, our attachment to them has almost become like an addiction. So when were in the car driving it's almost impossible to hold our desires for replying to text we just acquired, or tweeting about the slow driver in front of us. But what we don't understand is that those five…

I agree that driving while using a handheld cellphone is bad because it can lead to a car crash, the driver isn't focused on the road, and not paying attention to other drivers and not all hands are on the wheel. One reason why I believe that driving with a cellphone should be illegal because it can lead to a serious car crash in some cases. The driver may not be focused on the road and they hit a car dead on. Another reason why I agree with driving with a cellphone is illegal because the driver may not be focused on driving. They most likely be focused on talking to someone on the phone, Face time , Facebook, Snap chat , Twitter. Some people will forget that they are driving if they are really into there phone. The last…

A Risk or a Benefit? As of 2000, there were about ninety million cell phone users in the United States, with 85% of them using their phones while on the road (Sundeen 1). Because of evidence that cell phones impair drivers by distracting them, some states have considered laws restricting their use in moving vehicles. Proponents of legislation correctly point out that using phones while driving can be dangerous. The extent of the danger, however, is a matter of debate, and the benefits may outweigh the risks.…

Using a cell phone while driving can cause the driver to take their eye off the road and cause them to think about what’s going on with their cell phone. When a phone call comes through on the driver’s cell phone, this distracts them from paying attention to the road. This is a major cause of accidents and deaths on the road. This also is putting drivers life in danger. While drivers may think they can handle talking on the phone they tend to miss visual and audio clues to avoid crashes. For example, there could be a crash on the highway. Drivers pick up their cell phone to call spouse or a friend to inform them of the trouble car crash. In the split second you looked down to dial the number you didn’t see the sign that said “right lane closed.” You then look up and realize that you are now in the right lane were the accident occurred. Before you could slow down or even stop you run into the back of a car that was just in an accident. Now because you picked up your cell phone instead of consternating on the road you put yourself in a situation you did not have to be in. This is just a few reasons why concentration on the road is so critical to prevent accidents.…

Ever been stuck at a light behind somebody who is not paying attention because of their cell phone? It's annoying right. Well that might not be a problem anymore. Many states have banned the use of hand-held devices while driving. Knowing about all the people that have been killed in accidents involving cell phones, I one-hundred percent agree with this law. Using your cell phone while driving can lead to lack of focus on the road, especially among young drivers who are not as experienced as their adult counterparts. Driving takes an extreme amount of concentration, due to the many things that could happen on the road. From cars slamming on brakes in front of you, to people cutting in and out of traffic, you need to have your undivided…

The driver was arrested and sent to jail. Even if it happened in only a moment and the biker was still in the way of the car, if the driver was paying attention to the road, and not the phone, then he could have slowed down enough so the impact was not as deadly. He still regrets it to this day. There was another story of the cons of using cellphones in the car. This time it was a young girl and a police officer witnessed the horrific scene. She crashed into the rail and died. The police officer admitted that he saw her text while driving and wasn't looking on the road. If using cellphones while driving was illegal, then the officer could have pulled her over and she would be alive. In jail, but alive. The misuse of cellphones while driving has made the problem one of the leading causes of car accidents. By making it illegal, it reduces the accident rate and involves the police in stopping the distracted driver before a crash occurs. However, with only a few states to support this law, it seems accidents like the man killing the biker and the young girl dying while the police officer watches will keep on happening. The problem of using cellphones while driving must be stopped by…

Your cell phone is killing people. Imagine for a moment you are on your way to your place of work. Traffic is terrible, so you grab your cell phone to text your co-worker or boss to let them know that you will be late for work. All you can remember later is the brief glimpse down to your cell phone while using your other hand to steer the car blindly. The trip to the hospital was short; you had your seat belt on and walked away with only minor injuries. The vehicle you ran into, on the other hand, fared much worse. A three-year-old boy was nearly killed in the collision. No, this would never happen to you. You are a perfect driver and have never had a problem driving while using your cell phone. The 330,000 injuries and 2,600 deaths annually were just unlucky, perhaps (Christensen par 3). How could this accident have been prevented? Laws concerning distracted drivers need to be enforced and education reinforced before more accidents occur.…

A story like this tragically happens all the time. There are some people who blame cell phone usage, some people blame the driver’s young age, and some people even blame the parents. Should cell phones be banned while driving? This has been a hot topic in the past couple of years. There has been more accidents because of cell phone usage because of its popularity in recent years. Is it something that needs to be strictly banned? Or is it just something people need to take upon their self and not do? Lawmakers have been asking themselves these questions quite a lot recently.…

The driver is not the only one affected. If the distracted driver hits someone, then the other person is affected as well. According to McFeatters, “The deaths of twenty five people and injuries to 135 others in a 2008 California train crash was attributed to cell-phone use.” This means that thousands of Americans are suffering injuries and deaths due to irresponsible drivers who decide to make phone call or text while driving. The use of cell phones on the road is not worth the risk of someone’s life. For example, about six months ago, I was driving on the highway no more than twenty five miles per hour. While I was driving I received a text message. I looked down for a couple of seconds to answer. When I looked up again, I did not see the truck that was in front of me had totally stopped. The next thing I knew I had crashed my car. Luckily, nothing happened to me, but my car was a total loss. According to Rachtel, “Studies show that motorists who send or receive a text message have a tendency to take their eyes off the road for five seconds to do so. That is enough time for their car to travel more than the length of a football field at highway speeds.” Unfortunately, many young people think that while driving answering a call or text would not make a difference, but what they do not realize is that it only takes couple of seconds for an accident to occur. This involves the lives of innocent…

Being involved in a car accident is the ultimate consequence of texting while driving. It has not only started to take over our country over the past couple of years, but also has become the most common leading factor for car accidents around the world. In fact, over three thousand people are killed every single day due to texting while driving, leaving many injured. It seems as if this problem is only getting worse as the years pass by. The majority of the people think that texting while driving is a really simple task to complete, but what they don’t know is that they are putting not only themselves, but other people’s lives at risk by just replying to a simple few letter word message. The only thing that they are thinking at the time of typing the text is what to tell their friends or what they are planning on doing later that night. This drags all the attention from the road to their phone, Many people don’t understand this and that is why they keep doing it every time they drive. The only time they realize the danger they are making is once it has either happened to them or when it happens to a close family member. When a person is texting and driving their mind is similar to a…
