Abstract

Project charter is a vital document that enable project manager, stakeholders, sponsor and any other individual that are participating the project become a team to reach mutual understanding and agreement in order to achieve project goals or objective. The paper is going to explain the relationship between project manager and stakeholder, which is very useful in the preparation of the project charter. The essay also provides particular explanation about the typical contents in project charter and how to understand the definition, purposes of each element in order to make a good project charter.

The definition of a project charter is a statement of the scope, objectives and participants in a project and is a critical document to ensure that everyone involved in the project is aware of its purpose and objectives. It outlines the project objectives, identifies the main stakeholders, and defines the authority of the project manager. It serves as a reference of authority for the future of the project and its management. The detail within the charter should be proportionate with the size of the project. Project charter is important to authorize the project manager to apply resources for the request. It also helps the project team and sponsor develop a common in understanding, because there is an agreement between them. Project charter secures the project team and sponsor commitment together. Business Case

In order to make a good project charter, project manager have to differ each element in project charter. There are several elements that similar but not same. Business case is used to justify, initiate, propose, defined, tie the improvement of the organization’s objectives. More specifically, the business case describes how the consumers or stakeholders are impacted by the problem and also provides supporting decision of the organization’s issues. The project owner is responsible for the completion of the business case, while the project sponsor is responsible for the review or approval of it.
