MAIN OBJECTIVE OF PROBLEM:
Main objective of the problem is to maximize profit of the company, that produces milk made products and minimize shipping cost of these products to supply at different stores in the city. The main objective is achieve by using linear programming optimization methods.

EXACT PROBLEM DEFINITION:
A company produces milk made products such as, Cream, Skim milk, Full Cream Milk, butter and ghee. The company uses 3000000 liters of milk monthly for producing milk made goods. From 3000000 liters of milk company uses 25% of milk for producing cream and skim milk, 25% for producing Full Cream milk, 25% for producing butter and 25% for ghee. According to company policies, company produces only 500 gram pack of cream, 1 liter pack of skim milk, 1 liter pack of full cream milk, 500 gram pack of butter and 1 liter pack of ghee.
750000 liters of milk is 25% of 3000000 liters. From 750000 liters 30% of milk use to extract cream and remaining 70% sales as skim milk. Company gets approximately 37500 liters of cream 60,000 liters of skim milk. From this company may produce at most 75000 packs of cream and at most 525000 packs of skim milk.
From 750000 liters of milk no more than 750000 packs of Full Cream Milk are produced. And from 750000 liters of milk company get 187500 gram of butter, the company cannot produce more than 375000 packs of butter.
Company gets approximately 150000 liters of ghee of which company cannot produce more than 150000 packs of ghee.

The objective of this analysis is to determine what blend of the four chemicals will allow Quain to minimize the cost of a 50-lb bag of the fertilizer. To do this we have used Linear Programming (LP) – a technique specifically designed to help managers make decisions relative to the allocation of resources. In this case, C-30 = , C-92 = , D-21 = , and E-11 = . The constraints for this case were translated into linear equations (i.e. inequalities) to mathematically express their meaning. The first constraint that C-11 must constitute for at least 15% of the blend can be expressed as: . The second constraint that C-92 and C-30 must together constitute at least 45% of the blend can be expressed as: . The third constraint that D-21 and C-92 can together constitute no more than 30% of the blend can be expressed as: . Lastly, the fourth constraint is that Quain-Grow is packaged and sold in 50-lb bags can be expressed as: . These equations were obtained and entered into a POM LP as a minimizing function. The objective function of this case was calculated and expressed as . The following table is the input…

A master production schedule is used by business organizations as a metric to ascertain whether or not their production (outputs) meets their supply demands (inputs). There are times when a business wants to have a surplus and at others letting inventory dwindle to smaller numbers is optimal. The idea is to ensure that customers get their orders in a timely manner to retain loyalty, maximize profits, and reduce overhead and direct costs. The Realco Breadmaster Company has a new bread maker in the hopes of increasing their revenue. In question is the cost and efficiency of the new bread maker. The owner of Realco, Johnny Chang, wants a Master Production Schedule (MPS) designed.…

Imagine that you have decided to open a small ice cream stand on campus called "Ice-Campusades." You are very excited because you love ice cream (delicious!) and this is a fun way for you to apply your business and economics skills! Here is the first month's scenario--you order the same number (and the same variety) of ice creams each day from the ice cream suppliers, and your ice creams are always marked at $1.50 each. However, you notice that there are days when ice creams remain unsold but other days when there are not enough ice creams for the number of customers.…

From this data, as well as the data given on manufacturing methods and hours per method, a solution could be found utilizing the linear programming method of analysis. To analyze the data, the actual profit on each material was first calculated. This was done by taking the selling price and subtracting each cost associated with the given material. The results are $34.00 for the 75C, $30.00 for the 33C, $60.00 for the 5X, and $25.00 for the 7X. The next step was to determine how many constraints would be part of the analysis. There was determined to be 10 constraints in the analysis, 4 for the April orders, 4 for the manufacturing methods and 2 for the minimum orders promised by Vivian. With this data, the amount of each product to be produced to maximize profit for April could be determined. The results can be seen in Table 3.…

Mr Ganesh, Project Director for the Kapadkunj Intensive Handloom Development (IHD) Project of the Panchtantra Handloom Development Corporation, was preparing the production plan for his project for the next month. The IHD project produced two types of handloom products - 60 x 40 lungis and 40 x 40 shirting. Every month, Mr Ganesh had to decide on the quantities of each of the products to be produced after taking into account the loom capacity available in the project, the availability of 40s and 60s yarn (both of which were procured and supplied to the project by the Corporation's centralized purchasing department) and information regarding sales from the Sales Department. Mr Ganesh expected around 3000 loom days of production capacity to be available to his project next month. Mr Kapasi, the purchase manager, had indicated that due to stringent market conditions, at the most 480 kgs of 60s yarn and 2400 kgs of 40s yarn would be available to the Kapadkunj project next month. The sales department of the Corporation had piled up adequate stocks of finished goods. Hence, the Sales Manager, Mr Bazari, did not want the production quantity to exceed the normal sales level of 11000 metres of lungis and 22000 metres of shirting.…

Decision making is an important aspect of the Paper F5 syllabus, and questions on this topic will be common. The range of possible questions is considerable, but this article will focus on only one: linear programming. The ideas presented in this article are based on a simple example. Suppose a profit-seeking firm has two constraints: labour, limited to 16,000 hours, and materials, limited to 15,000kg. The firm manufactures and sells two products, X and Y. To make X, the firm uses 3kg of material and four hours of labour, whereas to make Y, the firm uses 5kg of material and four hours of labour. The contributions made by each product are $30 for X and $40 for Y. The cost of materials is normally $8 per kg, and the labour rate is $10 per hour. The first step in any linear programming problem is to produce the equations for constraints and the contribution function, which should not be difficult at this level. In our example, the materials constraint will be 3X + 5Y ≤ 15,000, and the labour constraint will be 4X + 4Y ≤ 16,000. You should not forget the non-negativity constraint, if needed, of X,Y ≥ 0. The contribution function is 30X + 40Y = C Plotting the resulting graph (Figure 1, the optimal production plan) will show that by pushing out the contribution function, 66 student accountant March 2008 the optimal solution will be at point B – the intersection of materials and labour constraints. The optimal point is X = 2,500 and Y = 1,500, which generates $135,000 in contribution. Check this for yourself (see Working 1). The ability to solve simultaneous equations is assumed in this article. The point of this calculation is to provide management with a target production plan in order to maximise contribution and therefore profit. However, things can change and, in particular, constraints can relax or tighten. Management needs to know the financial implications of such changes. For example, if new materials are offered, how much should be paid for them?…
