Introduction
Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) is the third busiest international passenger airport and operates the busiest international cargo facility in the world. It has been ranked as the busiest airport for international air cargo since 1996. In 2010, 50.9 million passengers used HKIA, and some 4.1 million tonnes of air cargo passed through Hong Kong. HKIA is connected to over 160 destinations, including around 45 in the Mainland, through about 900 daily flights by over 95 airlines.
With commitment of providing passengers with customer-oriented facilities and services, HKIA has made every effort to deliver quality services and earned the world's best airport recognition over 35 times.
Use of RFID
Focusing on strengthening Hong Kong’s competitive power in long term, as a key contributor as a leading international and regional aviation centre is an important task for HKIA. HKIA invests a lot on building a better airport. It undertakes programme for Terminal 1 capacity enhancement and airfield improvement.
To cope with daily high demand of passengers and cargo transportation, adopting different IS and ebusiness systems are necessary for HKIA to remain its competitive advantages. RFID is one of the technologies brings a great enhancement and performance for HKIA. RFID can be used widely in HKIA, baggage handling is one of the most typical works that has been done by this technology. And, HKIA is the first airport introduces RFID and operates successfully around the world. In this project our group would like to have a focus on how RFID contribute to HKIA.
Study Plan
In the project, relationship between HKIA and RFID will be discussed with the aspects but not limit to the below:
- Background of HKIA and RFID
- The success of HKIA with contribution from RFID
- Possibility of enhancing the application of RFID with other parties
-
