Lost legacies- The Desert of Fire

Prologue-

Lightning was fast asleep in his dirt and rock den when a deep rumbling woke him up. He hopped on his paws immediately and dashed to the entrance, listening to the earth as it shook in obvious discomfort. He looked up and saw rocks falling from a nearby cave onto several rattlesnakes and fear flashed through his mind. He leapt back into the burrow and shook his son Willow awake. He hissed urgently to his son “Get up Willow! Come on!”
Willow suddenly jumped up on his haunches and asked “What is going on!?!”
Lightning answered with “Get out! Earthquake! Run!” before dashing towards the exit. As the duo raced out of the burrow that had been their home for so long, Lightning paused for a few

I think that you should greet your new responsibility with joy.”
Dust managed to stutter, “Th-thank you so much!”
Alpha smiled warmly and said, “The pleasure is mine.”
“Now, we howl!”
As Dust howled along with the members of his pack for the first time, he saw images flashing across his brain that made no sense: strange symbols, weird metal moving objects in the sky, and finally a pair of electric blue eyes staring him down. Dust abruptly stopped howling and rolled around, whimpering.
“Hey Dust are you alright?” called out Cactus from the opposite of the crater.
Dust finally got control over his shaking body and screamed “Th-the shadows… they’re coming for us!” before conscience fled and he blacked out.

Mask grinned at her foe, showing her long sharp teeth. Come here birdy, I am ready for you! As her opponent dove at her, a gust of wind knocked her down to her side. So, some people went to see what the noise was. I fell back asleep and when we woke up I was told that Greeb and Frok were badly injured by a dire wolf attack, so we needed to stay in the huts for the day. I went down to the river and ate some dried rabbit, then grabbed my arrow to find more. My dog Bork was able to sniff six out, so the supply did not go dry. I saw something in the distance watching us, but it walked away, so I went to camp and went to bed.…

The Fiery Trial by Eric Foner is a great read that brings to light many of the messy issues and problems regarding slavery before and during the Civil War. The author specifically discusses Abraham Lincoln and the changing of his views over time. The Fiery Trial has humanized Abraham Lincoln for me and I am able to more clearly understand the motives for the Civil War. I found that the book did a fantastic job of thoroughly describing Lincoln’s opinions and views and explaining why he felt the way that he did. While reading the book it is easy to see that the author has spent a tremendous amount of time researching Lincoln.…

Historically, the Anishinaabe were given certain rights to hunt and fish in northern parts of Wisconsin. Native people used the supply of fish as a way to nourish themselves and their families (p.280). The Anishinaabe people were known for harvesting and making use of everything on their land for food, clothing, and shelter (p. 232). In 1854, the Treaty of LaPointe was created, keeping Indigenous people from using their land to hunt and fish freely. As a result of this, the Anishinaabe people were left amongst the poorest people in North America (p.233).…

William sighed happily at the solitude he greatly enjoyed in the mindscape. He quietly hummed to himself. Ever since his brother was busy tormenting some new puppet of his named Dipper Pines, (or as he called him, Pinetree) it has been quiet. The silence never tore into him. In fact, talking tore into the young demon more than the silence. His thoughts were interrupted by black void surrounding him. He looks around, startled. He had no idea what was going on and this had never happened before. He saw a flash of pale yellow light, almost white and felt himself being pulled towards it. He heard voices the more he was pulled.…

Dust is a very important feature in the book Golden Compass. Dust is the feature that connects humans to their dæmons. A dæmons is a soul that can talk and is in the form of an animal. It sends the Dust to the human to allow the human consciousness. This being is actually somewhat of a soul that can talk and is in the form of an animal. If the bond between a human and their dæmon is severed both the human and the dæmon die. If it happens after your Dust has settled on you and you become an adult you simply become a lifeless shell. It is Dust that provides the answers given by the Alethiometer. An Alethiometer is a small, gold-colored, compass-like device that had a single use which is to tell the truth. 'Althea' meaning Truth gives its name.…

The crack of gunfire in the defining darkness drew him from his sleep. He silently awakened his raw-boned family. Sitting up and listening to the pandemonium which lay outside of the windowless skyscraper. The fire danced around creating demonic shadows upon the walls and across their gaunt faces. The man held his wife’s only hand as they rolled back to their sleep. The lemon soured light beamed throughout the city resting like a gargantuan beast, overpowering the horizon. The Dilapidated buildings, the burning city, a destroyed world. Once again he was first to rise.…

Something flew by her. This time, she definitely knew it was a bird, a crow or raven of sort but bigger. Glancing around, Annabeth didn’t see anything but knew that something was there. Another black bird like creature flashed by her face. It left a long scratch down her face. Long but thankfully not very deep or bad. It reminded her of the time she had gotten a paper cut at school, but a lot longer. She looked down at her braclet. A shield, a flashlight, a knife. A shield would might work. Her hand fingered over the red ruby. As the black creature flashed by her face again, she pressed down on it. The eight petal like blades spun out and formed a shield. She heard an unnatural cry and a thunk as the creature hit the shield and fell to the ground. Annabeth slowly and carefully pressed the ruby again. Dismantling the shield back into the silver snake wrapping around her wrist. When she looked down, she saw a bat. Wait a bat? She thought. It was thrashing around on it’s back, as if the creature had lost sense of…

Suddenly, his mouth opens and you see his teeth, like knife points. He tips his head back to let out a spine-tingling howl. You stay, frozen by his voice, yet still not afraid of the predator in front of you. The sound of thunder rings out and he yelps, falling to the ground. All is silent, even the wind. Crimson coats the stiff powder and you are in disbelief. Two men step from their hiding spots, looking like abominable snowmen in their white, puffy suits. One nods to you, as if he is some kind of savior, but you ponder to yourself, questioning: which creature really needs a savior?…
