Every year an event is held in Edinburgh to bring writers together from around the world. Edinburgh is a Scotland’s capital city and is commonly known as the first city to be advocate for literature. Edinburgh is the home of many famous writers. Not only is Edinburgh known to be rich in literature, but Edinburgh promotes peace to deepen the worlds understanding of Edinburgh’s background. In October 2004, Edinburgh became the first UNESCO city of literature. Edinburgh is a city where citizens of all countries of the world come together to share the common objective of peace. Edinburgh promotes peace through literature by holding events so people, editors, and writers can fly across America and have chance to meet . People also get a chance to meet famous authors of whom they admire. Edinburgh hold events such as Edinburgh’s International Book Festival, Book Lover’s Tour, and One Book! One Edinburgh to bring people together.
Edinburgh International Book Festival is describe as the “host to the largest public celebration of words in the world” which takes place in the heart of the historic city each August (Sutton). Edinburgh International Book Festival was created 1983 and it takes in Charlotte Square. The International Book Festival is held for seventeen days with exuberate activities of dialogue, debates, and discussion. Over the course of the seventeen days different session are held such as Meet the Author, and Letters Home. The International Book Festival has been known to “bring together seven-hundred and fifty writers to Edinburgh this year from forty-five countries”. Over 200,000 visitors fly across the world to join in on exciting debates and discussions. Nick Barley who the director of the Edinburgh International Book Festival said “This has been a breathtakingly vibrant year for the Book Festival.
