Exemplitory Essay: Dangers Of Social Networking For Children
In today’s technology age, computers play a huge role in our day to day lives, the Internet especially. A growing trend on the Internet these days is social networking sites, such as Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, and Bebo. These sites are great for catching up with old friends and being able to communicate with people instantly without running up your phone bill. While social networking sites are ideal for adults, they are not, however, good for children.
First of all, they hinder children’s social skills. Social networking sites are said to shorten attention spans, encourage instant gratification, and make young people self centered (Derbyshire). Children today don’t know how to communicate face to face with people. They would rather text or IM their friends than even think about having a verbal conversation with them. A fine example of this is my thirteen year old sister-in-law, Abbie. One night while we were visiting my in-laws, Abbie had some of her friends from school over...

Social media affects our kid's feelings of loneliness, separating them from the real world and increasing their feelings of depression. For instance, social media spread news of engagement and breakups, job gain and losses, passing test or failing, or news of life or death. It's easy for our kids to become overwhelmed with all the news. Social media also leads our kids to social isolation, especially, when the kids spent most oft the time on social media and reduce the chances of actual social communication. In addition, social media affects family cohesion. Social media makes our kids independent from the parent's involvement in their social lives. Our kids see social media as one way of gaining freedom from over- involvement and instruction from their parents. Kids prefer to stay in their rooms sitting behind a phone or a computer screen, chatting, texting, playing or meeting new people rather than sitting with the family. Like a mother was complaining to me about her teenage son the other day. He was very fond of painting, but recently, he lost interest in his hobby, he spent most of his time on social media. She noticed that sitting behind the screen affected his eyes and body, and he miss the opportunity to develop his personality and learn social skills. He stay up late chatting with friends or uploading pictures on Facebook, and he barely wakes up in the morning. This is one mother and I'm sure there is many…

Now when it comes to social networks being healthy and largely harmless I do not agree. Social networking sites can have some health risk as well as harm, it can cause stress, weight problems, cyberbullying and identity theft. There has been times when my nieces come home from school they go right to the computer instead of doing homework or they say they don 't have any just so they can get on the computer to get on these different sites like facebook. They will sit in front of the computer from the time they get in the house until its time to go to bed, and when my sister calls there names they don 't answer its like everything around them stops but the…

In today’s society, billions of people across the world are accessing the internet multiple times a day. Why wouldn’t they? Many people have the internet on their smart phones, and at the touch of a button can check their email, their Twitter, their Facebook, their bank account balance, you name it. Any social networking site or application, actually, whether it be Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, Youtube or something similar, it seems to easily suck up hours of a person’s day. Teens and children are accessing these sites while at school, and as soon as they get home from school. Adults are accessing these sites while at work and are often choosing to spend time checking their “walls” or profiles rather than spending time with their loved ones. There is no doubt that there are certain social benefits to these sites, many people say we need them to keep in touch with friends. However, the benefits do not outweigh the problems they cause. Social networking causes children and adults to be lazy and overweight, less productive at school and work, distracted, and, ironically, causes them to be anti-“social.” For these reasons, social networking is bad for society and should not be used.…

One of the main harmful consequence about it other than addiction and loneliness is that it can cause a lack of attention span. This is one of the main reason most kids growing up have some type of ADHD symptoms. When you are communication on social media you are constantly switching tasks. Because of this people can’t pay attention to one thing for very long and constantly switch to something else that’ll catch the users’ eye. This creates bad learning habits. You get so use to receiving information in small sections, constantly switching from one subject to another and your brain can’t keep its mind on one thing. Some say that kids are writing more than they ever have in decades. People feel that this is a good thing if they can use it for education but some feel this will lead to barley illiterate…

Some may call the social web a “highschoolish” socialization platform. The social web can be very quick to turn on your, depending on how you are using it. The truth is that the social web is usually not a very healthy or good atmosphere for a family, teen or child. Again, this depends on how it is being used and where. Even on the “safe sites” people are open to things that they may not want to see or experience. You may ask what some of the safer sights may be, well, platforms like pinterest can to the eye seem totally harm less, but if a child see’s something…

Social media is a medium of communication shared by most adults and children, but most especially teenagers. It is sometimes helpful, entertaining and within the reach of the general public. It has become an important mass media around the world. Sadly, this resource is abused and taken advantage by most teenagers, and not used in a way that they could get the best benefits from. It can have negative effects on teenagers like addiction, psychological problems and cyber bullying which can decrease their self-esteem that can lead to depression and possibly self-harm.…

Many parents dislike social networking. They believe that sites such as MySpace and Facebook attract child predators. Others say that cyber-bullying takes place on these sites. Others are convinced that social networks distract children from their school work. Can a child not be distracted in the playground? Are we to assume that there are no predators on the streets? Lots of things can distract and endanger children so these do not seem to be good reasons to ban social networking for everyone. The logical decision would be to talk with your child about the dangers of online social networking.…

The first advantage of social networking sites for children is spending less money. Children grow up very fast. As posted by ATA WEBSITE DESIGNS, Benefits of a Social Networking Site for Kids, the author said “These sites can keep children entertained for hours without costing parents too much. Many of the games that are offered online cost users to play them. On social networking sites, kids can play free online games.” In my opinion, children love to shop because they don’t know how much the toys are. If parents don’t want to buy,…

Another great issue of concern with social networking web sites is that of child safety. Research has shown that almost three out of every four teenagers who use social networking web sites are at risk due to their lack of using online safety. (Joly, Karine, 2007) A lot of the web sites do have an age requirement but it is easily bypassed by the lying about of one’s age. Even if…
