Alcohol and Cigar advertisements, unethical or not?
Societies around the world have very different cultures and live by different beliefs other countries do not relate to. Drinking and smoking has been a worldwide topic discussed by millions of people without ever getting to a conclusion. Some countries are stricter about selling alcohol and cigars than others and laws vary greatly around the world. The United States is the strictest country related to drinking age and it makes perfect sense to set the drinking age at 21 years old. The problem with their decision is the reason behind it, not the decision itself. I believe it is an unethical decision by the government and it can be found why throughout this essay. 6 million deaths occur worldwide related to tobacco use and 2.5 million from harmful use of alcohol. It is unethical for companies to invest so much of their money in order to promote a harmful product. It is also immoral for the government to not take even more actions on preventing these types of advertisements when they are supposed to take care of their own citizens. To even further develop this idea, the government makes a profit out of every product bought. If the government did not make a profit out of the effectiveness of alcohol and cigar campaigns, the stand they would take would be completely different. This is what makes the government look as the unethical organization they are. The companies are not helping in any way to prevent the death of these 8 million people each year. Instead, they are promoting the idea of their products as a good way to spend their money without caring about the consequences they have on citizens
