There are different ways people survive, for example in the book “Hiroshima,” one guy name Dr. Fujii survived from an atomic bomb in Japan. Japan, was warned about atomic bombs coming in their direction and many tried to run and …show more content…
hide but unfortunately a lot of people seemed to either get hurt or die. However, even though Dr. Fujii got blasted, he still happened to survive. In the book “Hiroshima” it says, “Dr. Fujii hardly had time to think that he was dying before he realized that he was alive, squeezed tightly by two long timbers in a v across his chest..”(Page 11) Dr Fujii may have been injured but he was still alive and knew what was going on. He was still aware of his surrounding and was still breathing. The atomic bomb dropping on the country of Japan killed thousands of people, it was a very traumatizing experience for Japan but being able to actually overcome that experience, takes a lot of guts. Another surviving experience is physically and mentally. People can be survivors after being a victim of rape. Rape is a serious matter especially when you’re a woman and being forced to do something you did not consent, for example, sex. After being raped, it could leave such a huge impact mentally that can lead a person to be mentally scarred which they have to survive with and face for the rest of their lives. In the article “Here is The Powerful Letter The Stanford Victim Read About to Her Attacker).” it says “I stood there examining my body beneath the stream of water and decided, I don’t want my body anymore. I was terrified of it, I didn’t know what had been in it, if it was contaminated, who touched it. I wanted to take off my body like a jacket and leave it at the hospital with everything else.”(Page 2) The victim in the article survived a traumatizing experience that left such a big impact in her life that she still has to accept and deal with that thought for the rest of her life. Being raped is an example of being a survivor, the victim had to face a challenge in her life that could have lead to death if no one interrupted the rapist raping the victim Some say being a survivor is all about being lucky.
But being a survivor takes courage, strength, determination and you have to able to think with your head. In the article “My First Kaddish,” a kid who was jewish worked for Germans and while he was at work, he was warned that the Germans were going out and killing the Jewish. The kid used his brain and quickly went out his way to hide from the Germans. ““We found shelter in a storage room, hiding in a far corner under a mound of cement, The shootings grew louder and louder, soon turning into a continuous barrage…” Some might say this luck but the child used his head and was quick to go run and hide knowing that he could save himself at the moment. Being a survivor could be because you’re lucky, but it based off of your actions and what you are capable of doing in order to save yourself from dying. Actions are the reason why there are survivors out there still living. One small action could lead to still living in this world and being considered as a
survivor. Although everyone has their own definition of someone who’s a survivor, it still has similar meanings. A survivor is someone who was able to overcome an obstacle without dying like the rest of the unfortunate ones. There was examples like Hiroshima survivors, a rapist victim and a the holocaust victims. There is so much more survivors out there who still struggle with the challenges that are being thrown at them. We wake up every morning not knowing what could happen in the next twenty four hours just trying to make it for another day in life. Aren’t we considered survivors? Life is pretty challenging, unfortunately there is many who aren’t able to survive longer than others, but the ones who are still alive, we are survivors and we have more to come in life.
