I’m writing a paper about Are breast fed babies smarter than formula fed babies. I hope it will be read by all parents and if I could publish it, it would be in the magazine American Baby. These readers may have heard the pros and cons about breastfeeding but they may need me to explain the benefits of the child development. Right now they may feel they already heard it before about my topic, but after they read my paper, I hope they will breastfeed their children. I just had a baby who was two months premature; he was 4 pounds 4 ounces. In order for him to gain his weight and to receive all the nutrition he needs the doctor recommended me to breastfeed. The doctor explained all the
pros of breastfeeding, so I began to do some research on my own. First I read, How Breastfeeding Builds Brighter Brains it said children who are breast fed have I.Q. scores averaging seven to ten points higher than formula fed infants. Studies have shown breast fed children get higher grades in school. The longer you breast feed the greater the intellectual advantage gain will be. The nutrients in breast milk will enhance brain growth. Some of the key ingredients are DHA a brain-boosting fat, cholesterol and lactose.
To check on this I read “Are you smarter than a 5th grader? Not a Breastfed One. In this article it confirmed that the I.Q. scores are higher providing the results from a large ongoing study in Australia that was published in Pediatrics. The results stated that 10-year olds who were breastfed for six months or longer had higher scores in all academic categories. I also found in “Breastfeeding premature Babies” it is very important because you can nourish your premature baby, with extra calories, vitamins, and protein. Also the live cells in breast milk that protect babies from infection can be even more important for premature babies. Off of the information I have found I am truly happy to be breastfeeding my child. I hope this paper will encourage all expecting mothers to breastfeed. Resources
