Opponents of concealed carry argue that increased gun ownership leads to more gun crime and unintended gun injuries. They contend that concealed handguns increase the chances of arguments becoming lethal, and that society would be safer with fewer guns on the street, not more. Dr. John Lott, published More Guns, Less Crime which concluded that the "shall-issue" laws linked with a reduction in violent crimes in 1988. Lott argued that if states that did not permit concealed handguns in 1992 had permitted them in 1977, 1,570 murders, 4,177 rapes, 60,000 aggravated assaults, and 12,000 robberies would have been prevented between 1977 and…
Gun violence dates back many years, around the time gun powder was first being produced in the 13th century. The first handgun was created in 1364 and was named the “hand cannon” (Hallowell 1), the name was self-explanatory. Nowadays hand guns are being produced that are smaller than the average persons’ palm, which is named the Swiss mini guns, these guns are being banned due to their extreme concealment capabilities. Guns revolutionized the world and brought high praises, until citizens started seeing the bad side of the guns. The fact that something so small can be so deadly can be frightening to people. Of course, I can see why people would not want guns to be banned since the constitution even allows the citizens to own a weapon. Just…
The debate over whether or not capital punishment should be used has gone on for thousands of years. Although the method of capital punishment has changed the idea of it has not. Capital punishment will always have its disadvantages and its advantages. There has always been an intense debate among the people regarding the constitutionality of capital punishment. In my opinion, capital punishment should only be used in harsh cases that the convicted person is proven guilty in.…
This assessment will focus on Section 1 of The Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (Stop and Search powers). I will look at the use of stop and search before the Macpherson report and after the Macpherson report and compare how it has changed. The use of stop and search powers allow the police to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour, and to prevent more serious crimes occurring generally in public places like a Football match. A police officer can ask what you are doing, why you’re in an area and/or where you’re going. They also have the power to stop and search you if they have ‘reasonable grounds’ to suspect you’re carrying; illegal drugs, a weapon, stolen property or something which could be used to commit a crime, such as a dangerous weapon. You can only be stopped and searched without reasonable grounds if it has been approved by a senior police officer. This can happen if it is suspected that; serious violence could take place, you are carrying a weapon or have used one or you are in a specific location or area. However, you don’t have to answer any questions the police officer asks you. The Police officer will note down seven details these include; Ethnicity, Objective of search, Grounds for search, Identity of the officer carrying out the stop and search, Date, Time and Place. However being searched does not mean you have been arrested, unless any of these factors apply.…
This type of searches happens when police see a suspicious person trying to commit a crime, so they stopped them before it happens. The police…

Many Americans believe that Gun-Control Laws should be enforced, because “Individuals do not need guns for protection; it is the role of local and federal government to protect the people through law enforcement agencies and the military.” (http://www.StudentNewsDaily.com) All Individuals deserve the right to carry a gun with them at all times, to use for protection. According to the Second Amendment in the Constitution, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” (https://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/second_amendment) Obtaining a gun, gives one the sense of feeling safe and protected given any situation. No one knows when they may be “attacked” or in danger, and the protection they need from the government may not always be there to protect them. Every American must learn self-defense and use it when needed, they shouldn’t have to rely and anyone but themselves.…
If an officer does not fill his monthly quota of stops, summons or arrests, he is subject to discipline (Gangi). Often, this discipline will leave a unsettling paper trail behind the officer and prevent them from being able to move up in the ranking. This commonality has been explained by many New York Police Department officers confidentially in, “The Hunted and the Hated: An Inside Look at the NYPD's Stop-and-Frisk.” Last year, nearly 686,000 people were stopped on the street; a startling increase from only 97,000 in 2002. This amounts to a 600% increase in stops in less than ten years, and searches will continue to increase as the police department tries to keep these numbers up every year (Gangi). Factually speaking, the number has increased every single year since Mayor Bloomberg took office (Long). Crime is down, but can it accurately be attributed to an increase of stop and frisks? Stop and frisk can not be directly and certainly not solely attributed to the decrease of crime. Additionally, stop and frisk is highly subject to racial…
Many news have covered how this issue is rising in NYC. Last June, New York Daily News published an article called “NYPD reveals increases in homicides and gun violence across NYC compared to last year, with half as many stop-and-frisks”. It says that a 19.5% spike in homicides during the first five months of this year 2015. Statistics show that more people are getting shot and killed. However, fewer people are being stopped and frisked. Consequently, murder victims have risen a 72% who died of gun violence which it’s usually around 57%. Therefore, gun violence is a big issue in our city since many of these guns are illegal which make this panorama even worse. For that reason, stop and frisk is necessary to try to reduce criminal activity and gun violence which is taking many New Yorkers…
To begin with, in today’s society, the Criminal Justice system is broken. A person’s trial can have a different outcome depending on their ethnicity. Statistics prove that all races are not treated equally, whites always have an advantage for being the dominant group in the U.S. At this period in time, there has been a lot of shootings involving African Americans the most. In various incidents, law enforcement officers state that they felt that their life was in danger when the suspects were not armed.…
The mission of an organization “is its purpose or reason for being”. It will state “who we are, here is what the organization do, and how we differ from our competitors”. Based on the mission statement the company will develop their goals and objectives. They will focus on every single aspect that will help to strive and reach the mission of the organization. The mission statement will influence on the everyday actions of the company, it will affect the ways the employees, managers and other supervisors communicate, supervise, and engage relationships between each other. The mission statement should be known by everyone in the organization so each person can achieve it and its goals. On an important aspect, all the stakeholders should know…
Do firearms encourage misconduct? Many Americans choose to believe they do. With gun control being a controversial topic throughout society, it has its consequences. Because gun violence has recently been a prevalent issue, gun control is at the forefront of political leaders’ decision making, however, gun control places law abiding citizens at a disadvantage.…
Gun control in the United States has become a highly controversial topic over the years. There have been plenty of debates on the gun control laws and people have taken to being either pro gun control laws or anti gun control laws. One thing we can’t deny would be that gun control laws would keep us all safer and even save lives. Statistic show that more guns equals to more homicide cases. If more citizens have easy access to guns, they’re more likely to kill than if they didn’t have easy access to the guns. Public places like schools, restaurants, and churches are not acceptable places for people to be carrying guns; it puts the public in danger. It should be illegal.…
Advantages of Evidence Base Policing, is that the police are able to base their decisions on established and proven methods of investigations. It is also structured to reduce crime rate and lower expenses. It helps law enforcement decipher the right criminal instead of making a wrongful arrest. Evidence based policing offers a practical solution to the need to balance community service needs, public safety, available funds and taxpayer expectations. It can also be implemented without adding law enforcement officers, disrupting police organizations or offending community members (Criminal justice today).…
The death penalty is used universally, in developed countries, as well as, in undeveloped countries. The death penalty is used more for retribution and retaliation than it is for justice. The death penalty does not deter crime effectively, it is incompatible with human rights and human dignity, used against minorities and the poor, and there is always the risk of executing innocent people. Its easy to agree to the death penalty when the accused is not someone you know...bu what if the accused was your son, daughter, father, mother, brother, or sister? Would you still be for the death penalty?…
