Throughout American history there have been constant debates on the pros and cons and the best and worst president, from their capability of leadership to to their accomplishments from day 1 of their presidency to the end. Today, I will be discussing Thomas Jefferson, John Adams and George Washington’s presidency and ranking them 1-3 on their accomplishments with foreign politics and their alliances with other countries.
Last Place - President John Adams John Adams had started a foreign crisis by commending an alliance with the British- making their alliances with the French very treacherous, consuming problems with the french revolution. Forming a treaty to improve relations with an old enemy of course made the United States’s current alliances increasingly difficult to maintain, causing a foreign crisis regarding the British. This included the augmentation of the Navy, increased coastal defenses and creating a provisional army. Adams had also summoned 80,000 militiamen on duty, as well as cancelling the treaty and alliance with the French. Resulting in a bloodbath over seas against America, and the French. Historians often call this war the “Quasi-war crisis”. Adams sought a peaceful solution, as if anything he had done would have helped the french understand the treaty with the alliance with the british. However, despite these foreign crises, his goal was tying to demonstrate resolve, which ended up eventually succeeding. Resulting in a lot of blood bath, yet it ending in another treaty being sent to France, Napoleon Bonaparte being the new head of French government decided to accept the peace treaty after several months of negotiation in 1799, thus ending the “Quasi-War
