Pros And Cons Of Living In America
Throughout the course of a mere few decades, the makeup of the US and her citizens has evolved immensely. Along with the great racial and religious diversity, a constrained set of options when determining how one’s life should be lived is abolished. Nearly anyone from any racial/cultural background is exposed to an unlimited amount of routes to take through life. In addition to the vast lifestyle choices, a myriad of options pertaining to religion, education, housing, and employment are available in America. Despite the unfathomable span of possibilities, each American essentially strives to live one Dream—the one previous denizens of this land strived to reach as well. The epitome of this Dream consists of three chief factors—“life, liberty,

Everyone in the world is as unique as the snowflakes that fall upon us in the winter. No one acts the same or grew up the same, so it’s a no brainer when it’s observed that they all have contrasting opinions. And with different opinions come divergent reactions of anger or spitefulness when their opinion is not met. An extensive controversial topic today is how much we sensitize our books and museums for the children and everyone else. A writer from The Atlantic Monthly wrote about this exact issue 100 years ago and had a sprinkle of intriguing arguments for it.…

We live in a world where materialism has never been so advertised. The past hundred of years have shown the evolution of the American dream. It has gone from simply living a stress free and sustainable life to having the aspirations of buying a house, making good money, and the opportunity of upward social mobility. American society preaches that everybody has equal opportunity to achieve the American dream. Although this claim is widespread among the American society and even the government, it is unfortunately false. The idea that everybody has equal individual opportunity is a myth because social classes and social inequalities restrict individuals from pursuing the American dream. Barbara Ehrenreich, in her text “Serving in Florida,” highlights the inequalities and…

WASHINGTON—With the United States facing a daunting array of problems at home and abroad, leading historians courteously reminded the nation Thursday that when making tough choices, it never hurts to stop a moment, take a look at similar situations from the past, and then think about whether the decisions people made back then were good or bad.…

Though limited, there are endless outcomes that come with having little information. Such as gathering ideas to become more understanding with the simple statements. Being in a class with just 15 students, managed to make me experience such a worldly feeling. While sitting, clueless and intrigued, listening to multiple of my classmates limited stories about migrating to America; did I later, began to complement the troubles and frustrations of those who migrated only a few years ago. Unfortunately, with only about an hour to spare, was it difficult to understand the specific situations of my classmates. Many of the people who migrate to different countries, encounter many issues when trying to adapt. Even with limited information, the difficultly…

What is an American? Do they just slack around eat burgers like a stereotype? Do they just do barbecues and shoot off fireworks every evening? No, being an American is much more than that. Americans are: hardworking people, they fight for what they believe in, and they embrace the freedom they have fought so hard for.…

America historically owns the reputation of being the land of opportunity, and for generations immigrants have fled to the United States to experience the freedom and equality our government lays claim to. At the root of this reputation is the American Dream, the belief that with hard work anyone can succeed based solely on his or her merits, and is believed to be [American Dream] blind to race, sex, or socioeconomic status, conversely, repeated examples and statistics of the lower-classes, those continually facing the harsh reality that opportunity and equality are just myths, only prove the opposite. The truth of the matter is that influence of a class on an individual’s identity is greater than many would like to perceive. The main reason for this misconception is the fact that everyone wants to hear what they can accomplish and not what factors stand in their way, keeping them far from reality. The idea of what factors affect identity, and most importantly, what are the underlying realities of the American mythology of success has been touched upon by many writers, among them are Gregory Mantsios in “Class in America” and Harlon Dalton in “Horatio Alger.” Even though these two writers have confronted the last topic [American mythology of success] in different ways complementing each other, I still believe that Gregory Mantsios has been more persuasive, and insightful on his approach.…

Then there is the side that is completely ok with immigration and thinks they are just trying to come to america to get a better life and job so they can survive. They are completely different thoughts and ideas but i agree with the people who think they just want better jobs because it's true but i don't they they should come over here and take all of our jobs by working for less. They can work for less because any money to most of them is more than they had, and if all these immigrants are coming here and taking…

When asked the question “what is an american?”, almost every single person would provide a different answer. This question is very open ended, and there are infinite possibilities for a response. Being an american is not something that can be decided by a few physical criterion, it is something more. To be an american is, according to Patricia Fernandez, “a state of mind,” based on a person’s beliefs rather than their tangible features. Therefore, I believe that an American is someone who considers America to be their home, believes in freedom and equality for all people regardless of race, social status, gender, or ethnicity, and is loyal and supportive to the United States.…

The American Dream was once based on the same principles of The Declaration of Independence, like freedom and equality. That all men deserve “..life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness..” (Revolution) Over time, the dream became more materialized and narcissistic. For some, it promised a journey of milestones and accomplishments. But for others, obstacles in the way were too much of a struggle. Azar Nafisi once said, “The negative side of The American Dream comes when people pursue success at any cost, which in turn destroys the vision and the dream.”…

Everyday students work vigorously to secure academic success. They frequently set goals for themselves and strive to reach them. The American dream is like a grade which a student works hard to receive. It is a goal that one sets for himself. The dream, just like the grade, may not always be easy to achieve, but through hard work and determination anyone can live out their dreams. As people travel across the Atlantic from Europe, they look out and see the Statue of Liberty holding her radiating torch of freedom. The new immigrants are about to step foot in America, home of the free and land of opportunity. Many people who come to America, or who are born Americans, have a dream of what life will be like in this wonderful country. Envisioning that dream is like painting a beautiful picture - freedom, prosperity and success all contribute to people’s vision of being a happy American. By viewing the American dream, of St. Jean De Crevecoeur, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Iola Leroy, and the Seneca Falls Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions one is able to see how different each one of us is, and how many dreams are really out there. St. Jean De Crevecoeur wrote about the American dream as a positive experience. De Crevecoeur came to America from Europe around 1754. America to him was a fresh sheet of paper on which one could start a new painting of “the good life.” In America, one has rights. Americans can originate from anywhere and still be called an American. De Crevecoeur holds this fact to be of the utmost importance. Not only are Europeans, for example allowed to come to America, but they are also welcomed with open arms. They can live a life here that they only dreamed of before. They are now free to follow their own self-interest, and work for themselves. People traveled to America to find riches and success, and De Crevecoeur believed that self-interest was the key in reaching this dream. De Crevecoeur emphasizes that people who travel to America were…
