Pragmatic leaders in my words are simply “action people”. i.e. they work on getting their purpose fulfilled. Machiavellian leadership is of a different ball game, is a leadership style where cunning and evil crafted approaches are used by an individual who is the leader to gain competitive advantage over others. One of the things that differentiate servant leadership from Pragmatic and Machiavellian is that servant leadership involves service to the people and mostly decision making is based on emotions and feelings but for pragmatic and Machiavellian is based on what we have to do to get what we want. Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the first Prime Minister of Ghana is a typical example of a pragmatic leader. A quote by Paul Kagame says that “ The story of Africa has been written by others, now we need to write our own stories by take upon ourselves the problems and solutions that we have”(“Slides - Pragmatic Leadership 2017.pdf,” n.d.).
