Pros And Cons Of Servant Leadership
Servant leadership is a leadership style where individuals called leaders do not just manage people to acquire desired goals but it is a style where the leader creates the avenue where the desired goals can be achieved. It is also humbling yourself as the scriptures say to serve and support the people that are under you in terms of hierarchy to attain desired results (Ayenor,2017). Listening is being receptive to what others have to say, this is a characteristic of a servant leader and if a leader is open and amenable to listen closely to what his or her subordinates have to say. Flaws and cons that organization or groups face would be hurdled upon by the group or organization because everyone shares opinions and thoughts about certain issues …show more content…
Pragmatic leaders in my words are simply “action people”. i.e. they work on getting their purpose fulfilled. Machiavellian leadership is of a different ball game, is a leadership style where cunning and evil crafted approaches are used by an individual who is the leader to gain competitive advantage over others. One of the things that differentiate servant leadership from Pragmatic and Machiavellian is that servant leadership involves service to the people and mostly decision making is based on emotions and feelings but for pragmatic and Machiavellian is based on what we have to do to get what we want. It is putting all emotions and feelings aside and doing practical things. Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the first Prime Minister of Ghana is a typical example of a pragmatic leader. A quote by Paul Kagame says that “ The story of Africa has been written by others, now we need to write our own stories by take upon ourselves the problems and solutions that we have”(“Slides - Pragmatic Leadership 2017.pdf,” n.d.). I think this quote has excited many African leaders, this has caused a great influence on them and it has reduced the dependency rate that the leaders have on others.
