“Cruelty to others is nothing new, but online. Technologically enhanced shaming is amplified uncontained and permanently accessible” (Lewinsky, 2015). This is one of the many things Monica Lewinsky (2015) sates in her talk “the Price of Shame”. Lewinsky (2015) has been known for having an affair with former president bill Clinton, due to this affair she has been a victim of public humiliation and shaming. Lewinsky (2015) argues how humiliation and public shamming can lead to negative outcomes and, that this culture of shaming and public humiliation needs to end and can be with compassion and empathy. It has more of an effect because people change themselves trying to be socially accepted, they attempt to look and even act like someone they aren’t. During high school, I had this experience where being socially accepted was more important than following what I wanted to do. When in high school I started to have different interest as my friends. Most people who I associated with where from band, due to the fact that I was in band as well, but I had a passion for dance more than music; I wanted to be part of the Pon Pom squad. Once I brought up the idea to my so call friends, they began to shame me. The thing that they told me was that only sluts were part of the team, that they were all fakes.
