Pros And Cons Of The Gilded Age

Though people around the world seem happy and thrilled with how they live their lives, there is more to it. Most places are covered with bright and happy ideas but observing deeper in, there usually not as great as people describe and explain them to be. Mark Twain referred to this era as “the Gilded Age”, the time where both negative and positive actions took place.

First and Foremost, there are numerous great things that came from the Gilded age. The top effects are many advancements, such as the fair job opportunities for women and other improvements. When it came to the job opportunities, there were many women who were discriminated against and worked hard but never enough to pay off. Now that the Gilded Age came into place, people started
The population growth, crime, and health were the top things that changed and became worse. With the population growing, poverty increased, especially in urban areas, and people lost so much. When everything started to happen and the immigrants started to migrate, the crime rate increased and the health rates decreased. Because so many people were starting their new lives in this new place, there were many diseases that started to go around and make people’s health drop, which started to cause other negative effects during this time. Besides all the pros and cons during this era, there was a reason why Mark Twain called it “the Gilded Age”.

By calling it “the Gilded Age”, Mark Twain was trying to infer that though some things may seem perfect or at least great, there’s always a twist and a negative part involved. The term “gilded” means to cover something up with gold, assuming that there’s something underneath needing to be covered up and kept inside. I believe that the name Mark Twain chose was perfect to describe this time period.
