Veganism has come a long way and its strength is coming from its growing food culture. As American’s we are used to french fries, burgers, and milkshakes as our go to dishes. These foods are now being recognized as detrimental to our health over time and/or with persistency. Our culture is rated as a sick and overweight culture. Healthcare is costly in our nation and our food is the cause of this. In 2012, according to the California Healthcare Foundation, the United States spent $2.8 trillion on healthcare. Everyone knows someone who is sick and this is because fast food joints
craze our communities and our wallets seamlessly. Because we have succumbed to fast paced lifestyles, doctors are saying that we are eating ourselves to the grave. Our bodies cannot breakdown other foods without the enzymes found in vegetables and food grown by the Earth. Vegetables should be our main source of food intake along with fruit, berries, herbs, and grains. The myth about a lack of a protein source without meat, has been disproved. Many vegetables contain protein and it is certainly possible to get enough of it from only plant foods such as broccoli, lentils, hemp, and nuts, just to name a few. Although protein is necessary for our functioning it is so in a much smaller amount than we think. Similarly, a vitamin essential to our bodies and brain function by the name of B12 is said to be found only in animal products. However supplements that are vegan friendly can be found in a variety of forms such as pill form, powder, or liquid at any local health store or foods such as spirulina which is a rich sea algae that can be added to smoothies. When it comes to dairy, our bodies are not designed to drink the milk of another species. Lactase which breaks down milk (our mother’s milk) stops being produced in us at a very young age. Today cow’s milk contains many additives such as antibiotics, pus from infected cow utters, and rBGH (Recombinant Bovine Growth) a health hormone linked various cancers. (Global Healing Center) As far as pasteurized milk, it is mere sanitization and not elimination or these additions.
