The case is a complex situation that would arouse various emotions, influencing the decisions that are to be made. As a manager making the decision, I will have various emotions as discussed below.
1. Sympathy
I will be sympathetic considering the current situation of Bud. Though he is not doing very well now, he played a great role in the previous activities of the company. The manager is to pity him because he is already sick, and it would be difficult for him to get another job at his age. It would be more reasonable to sympathize with him and keep him in the company (Jex 2002).

Surprise
The feeling of surprise will be the first emotion that the employees will have. The employees will wonder why the manager will have made the decision to retain Bud regardless of his poor performance.
5. Sadness
Some of the employees will be sad. This feeling will result because some employees feel that the failure to achieve the goals of their company has occurred because of Bud, who should leave the company for their benefit and the benefit of the company (Van 2000).

Bud will be affected because he will have a tight schedule regardless of his health condition, involving working and engaging in training. The company will be affected because there will be a need to spend cash on the training. The decision is reasonable because it will help retain Bud as well as ensure he contributes positively to the company (Reichheld 2001).
The second option is to appoint a more committed, experienced and talented assistant. Such an assistant will motivate Bud, who can improve in performance with time. It can also be a strategy of retaining Bud to ensure that he can meet his financial needs before retiring in the near future. The people affected by the decision include the assistant who will have to work hard with the collaboration of an individual who may not be very capable (Cascio 2002). Bud is also affected because he may feel to be of less importance with the assistance. The other workers are also affected if they realize that Bud does not perform even with all the
