This is essay will attempt to explain how the scripture Psalm 91:1 applies to Them, Us and Me. More specifically, how the scripture affected the Israelites as a nation (Them), how Jesus has transformed how we read and understand the Old Testament (Us) and how the scripture relates to me in my own personal walk with God (Me). The book of Psalms uses poetry to speak through the imagination to each of these groups in a way that is relevant to them . Today, by the Holy Spirit we are able to interpret the passage to find out what God is saying to each group.
Them
As a nation the Israelites dwelt in the secret place of the Most High by keeping His commandments and following the requirements of the law. The Law was established when God led the Israelites out Egypt and gave the Law to Moses on the mountain of Sinai. The people of God had been in slavery for a number of years. When the people cried out to God, He heard their cries and answered their prayers. When Israel kept their eyes focused on God and abided under everything he commanded, they would continue to be sheltered from the effects of adversity. …show more content…
There are many occurrences of this throughout the Old Testament such as being led around the dessert for forty years and a whole generation did not see the promised land. God also drove them out of the promised land as they continued to be disobedient and were not obeying His commandments.
This scripture is a reminder to Israel that God has been her dwelling place throughout all generations . Once Israel had fixed their eyes back on God and began to follow His Commandments, they fell under God’s protection once again. Even though Israel turned away from God, He graciously accepted them back and protected them when they turned their eyes back on him.
