yet they did not trust God as they should. God punished them for their lack of faith. Moses reiterates to fear God. Many of times, Moses tells the people that God is the only God and that God is a jealous God. He tells the Israelites not to have any false God and idolize objects. He tells them not to forget to be grateful to God for he is the one that will make them great. God is the one that will give them abundance of crops and prosperous lands. He feared that generations to come would forget to praise God for that. God warns Moses of what will become of the people if they do forget Him and idolize objects. Not only did Moses teach the people about obedience, but also the repercussions if the people were to become evil.
The book was very detailed about what a horrific place Israel would become of they did not obey God’s laws and put Him first. He promised terrible curses if people disobeyed God. Likewise, he promised grand rewards for the people of they chose to obey God. Once again, God gives people the laws and allows them to make their own decisions. These decisions predict ones destiny. God did not give the Israelites the Promised Land immediately after being freed from Egypt because the Israelites had a lot to learn first. They needed to know how to love and serve God before they were just given such a grand place to live. The needed to learn how to believe in God before they could be trusted to do his work. Moses helped the Israelites learn how to have a relationship with God. Moses never made it to Canaan. He was able to see the promised lands from Mount Sinai, but because of his sins, he was to die on Mount Sinai. He did as just as God had told him to do. It is interesting to read about such a great prophet and leader falling short and living out his punishment. He could have tried to run and hide, but his faith in God knew
better.
