People have called Dr. Sigmund Freud one of the greatest psychologists of all times. Within a short period of time he had many others that were followers. Jung and Alder later join Freud and some people called them the three wise men. In my paper I will be comparing and contrasting the psychoanalytic theories of Freud, Jung, and Adler. I will also mention which two characteristics of theories that I disagree and agree with. Describing and explaining the stages of Freud’s can be quite challenging, but I’m going to try my best. I will be giving real-life examples, when describing uses of at least three Freudian defense mechanisms. Freud was very into psychosexual development, one word that he loved to use was “Libido” (Latin word for desire and lust). According to Freud’s psychoanalytic theory it is the sexual energy that underlines psychological tension. Freud had different views on comprehending how people act. When comparing and contrast the psychoanalytic theories of Freud, Jung, and Alder are very different. Freud based most psychological things on sexuality. Jung promotes the concept of archetypes, and Adler believed in the “will power” theory. Jung was different from Freud; he believed that dreams can reveal others motives than aggression and sexuality. Alder believed something different; he believed that dreams would tell how a person was living. Freud also believed that dreams had a meaning. Jung was never completely into Freud’s idea, so he left Freud to develop his own theory. Jung called his theory Analytic psychology to distinguish from Freud. Jung was not focused on sex like Freud. According to Jung theory the mind has three parts, the first one is the conscious ego, the second on is the personal unconscious, and the last one is the collective unconscious. Conscious ego is personality that is conscious. Personal unconscious means the minds contains thoughts/feelings that are not part of the conscious ego. Collective
