PSY1001: Professor Mizzell
There are various major areas of psychology and these areas include Developmental psychology, Cognitive psychology, Behavioral psychology, and Social psychology. While in this course I was able to learn not only about the areas of psychology, but also learned a lot about myself. Within this paper, I will explain each major area of psychology and I will also explain personality, how it is measured, and how it is used in psychology. I will also explain the importance of knowing the nervous system while learning psychology. I also learned about several different psychological disorders and the different psychotherapies available. I will choose one psychological disorder and describe how it affects a person and the different symptoms that will help you identify so that you will be able get help.
The first major area of psychology I am going to talk about is Developmental Psychology. Charles Darwin is credited with conducting the first systematic study of developmental psychology. Developmental Psychology studies the human growth throughout a person’s life. Understanding how a human develop is important in learning because it gives us knowledge on how we can live to the most of our abilities in life. It has a broad range of topics when dealing with the development of a person. Developmental psychologist also studies the progression of a person’s motor skills. They also do research on some theories of children’s mental, emotional and social skills because that is part of human growth.
The second major area of psychology I am writing about is Cognitive psychology. Although this form of psychology has not been around for very long, I find it to be very interesting. This are of psychology studies how we think as an individual and also how we learn and think. Cognitive psychology study the way we store information and how we perceive things.
