Introduction
My assignment will focus on Siyaphakama development for the disabled association that is situated in Cape Town. The organisations that I have identify focus on people who are living with disability mainly of a physical nature. Siyaphakama Development for the Disabled Association. The organisation is based at 20 Kliphout Street, Delft South, 7100 that is their physical and postal address although it’s not a permanent structure. The group also make use of the local community hall to have their meetings or event have chosen Siyaphakama Development for the Disabled association as an organisation that I will do my practical. I have known the organisation since 2012; one of the founder members was my colleague\friend and is also living with disability. I chose this group due to the fact that the ladies are very confident and don’t feel sorry for themselves and has also achieved a lot in their respective fields. The Chairperson of the organisation was crippled by the polio but that did not cripple her mind. She was one of the students at the University of the Western Cape who achieved the Golden key awards for her studies in Information Technology. This initiative motivated me so much that I wanted to be part of them and contribute to the development of the group.
The history and background Siyaphakaman Development for the Disabled Association deals with people who are living with disability mainly of a psychical nature some are wheelchair bound and other are using assistance in a form of crutches etc.
The organisation was established in August 2011 by eight (8) ladies who are living with disability, one Sunday while have they normal ladies night they decided to form a group that will focus on people living with disability with the purpose of promoting independency for people living with
