In the early morning of Thursday, 14 February 2013, Oscar Pistorius, the “Blade Runner” from South Africa, his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp was shot and killed at Pistorius' Pretoria home. Pistorius was taken into police custody and was formally charged with Steenkamp's murder in a Pretoria court on 15 February. The bail hearing commenced on 19 February under Chief Magistrate of Pretoria Desmond Nair. Prosecutor Gerrie Nel claimed that Pistorius had put on his prosthetic legs, walked across his bedroom to the bathroom, and intentionally shot Steenkamp through the door. Nel argued that the time required for this process was sufficient to establish the murder as "premeditated." But Pistorius said that he had thought Steenkamp was in the bed, and that the person in the bathroom was an intruder. He also said he had not put on his prosthetics before shooting into the bathroom. There were some procedural mistakes had been made during the crime scene investigation. Thus, these may benefits to the runner. The case is still not closed.
In this report, we will analyze the actions of Pistorius and reactions of public according to both hypothesizes of manslaughter and murder that the runner is by applying different theories of psychology.
Stress
First, we are going to explain why Oscar Pistorius was being “self-defense” with a gun on the premise that he does not establish the murder as premeditated. The reason is stress of Pistorius. Stress refers any circumstances that threaten or are perceived highly subjective to threaten one’s well-being and that therefore, require one’s coping ability. And the stress leads some physical, emotional, cognitive and behavioral responses to events that are appraised as threatening or challenging.
