Multitasking is the most detrimental activity in the human race. It is used in multiple aspects of life, including technology. Technology is revolutionary. In Restak’s “Attention Deficit; The Brain Syndrome of Our Era,” he expresses how today’s society has affected humans to the place where their brains have been rewired. Additionally, in the documentary Digital Nation, the film, like Restak, also shows how technology has affected humans. As a result of technology, there have been many advances in medicine like the creation of the MRI and CT scanners that have saved numerous people from life-threatening injuries. Users are addicted to their phones because they are able to access their digital social life from any physical location. As a result, users zone into their devices until they forget their surroundings. This behavior is dangerous in settings such as driving and leads rise to treacherous circumstances such as texting and driving. Texting and driving is when a driver is texting while they are driving and is such a prevalent epidemic that the activity is banned in 46 states and in the United State territories. In Digital Nation, Dr. Gary Small Stated that getting “people to stop texting while driving… [is] very difficult” and that participants are at “a 23 times greater risk of …[causing] an accident.” (Digital Nation) Continually, technology has claimed several lives of several as a result of people who were texting and driving. Additionally, texting and driving is just a dangerous as drinking and driving. They both are the causes of dangerous car crashes because the driver is intoxicated, whether by alcohol or technology, and is too impaired or distracted to be able to safely drive. Continuing on the topic of texting and driving, this problem can be remedied using apps like Live2Txt and Cellcontrol. Although seemingly steep, being distracted in the workplace can cause a societal crisis. At the very least if police officers, power plant engineers, doctors, and even the humble teachers were distracted to the place where they zone out their surroundings, society would turn into a place of chaos. This would result in crime running rampant in the streets, power outages, patients in critical condition becoming terminally ill or even die of fatal injuries. Most importantly if teachers would be this intoxicated with technology, their pupils would not receive the vital knowledge not only surpass their classes and but also be successful citizens. Employees are not employed to be distracted on social media or other digital forms. This behavior is unacceptable because this behavior is telling the employer that they are not worth getting their workers full cooperation and commitment to work. Not only is their no social media sources paying their users to utilize their interface, but the employers also have the right to replace perverse employees with more efficient ones. The majority of this situation is avoidable if the ineffective employee realize that they are unable to effectively to multitask their career with their technology addiction.
